Former Captain Sourav Ganguly has appeared to have revitalised his test career as he and Mahendra Dhoni brought up the first 50 partnership of the game. Ganguly was unbeaten on 75 while Dhoni was supportive with only 6 as the pair brought up the 56 run partnership to move the tourists to 5/232.

Ganguly Blazes Aussies - India 5/265

Sourav Ganguly blazed away the home side as he reached his first century of the test series with a magnificant display at Hobart. After reaching his half century in 89 balls, the former captain only needed an extra 38 balls to complete the magic hundred.

Ganguly had taken his side to a comfortable position at 5/265, with Mahendra Dhoni patiently turning over strike for the left hander. It was a magnificent and dominant display by the former captain who will now look to continue and take his team well past the 300 run point.

Dhoni Falls To McGrath - India 6/297

The solid supporting act played by wicketkeeper Mahendra Dhoni came to an end at the hands of Glenn McGrath while the young number 7 was on 12. One of the best fast bowlers in history managed to get one between bat and pad to take the right handers middle stump.

Although on paper the 12 may not look to be much of an achievement, Dhoni played a significant part in the Indian total coming very close to 300. Dhoni played a supportive role to Sourav Ganguly, who completed a smashing century to put the visitors in a strong position as play nears its end on day 1.

Brave Innings Comes To An End - India 7/312

The brave and flairy century from middle order batsman Sourav Ganguly came to an end after 143 crunching runs that took the tourists to 7/312. Glenn McGrath made the breakthrough for the home side as he cleaned bowled the left hander while bowling around the wicket.

It brings an end to one of the most swashbuckling innings seen in Hobart in recent history.

Lee Fires Agarkar - India 8/313

Brett Lee proved to hot to handle for tail end batsman Ajit Agarkar as India slipped with the score at 8/313. A quicker Lee delivery pitched full just outside off stump which Agarkar could only dab at, a fine edge streaming straight to wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist.

Clark Takes His First - India 9/316

Stuar Clark took his first ever test wicket on debut as the Indian tail slipped ot be 9/316 at Hobart. Clark teamed up with Justin Langer, who was fielding at backward square leg, to dismiss Zaheer Khan.

It was a welcome wicket for Clark who will now be able to bowl with more confidence knowing that his first wicket is in the bag. His first was the wicket of rival paceman Zaheer Khan, who looked to flick the ball to the leg side while still on 1. Langer took a simple catch to give Clark a moment he will long remember.

Clark Cleans Up Tail - India 10/322

Stuart Clark completed the mopping up of the Indian tail after the tourists tail end collapsed to be all out for 322. After an amazing 143 from Sourav Ganguly, the Indian tail end could only manage another 10 runs before they were all dismissed.

Anil Kumble was the last to go, trapped by a Stuart Clark cutting delivery that moved considerably off the seam. The leg spinner offered no shot and the ball cannoned into his pads. The wicket also signalled the end of the days play with the wicket falling in the last over of the 1st days play.

Both teams will be happy with their performance on what has been a phenominal days play. Australian openers Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer will now have their work cut out for them under the grey skies of the Tasmanian capital.

1st Innings Scorecard

Sourav Ganguly proved the key for the tourists with an amazing 143. Glenn McGrath returned to form to lead the Australian lineup with 5/99 from 25 overs while he was well backed up by fellow pacemen Brett Lee (3/83) and Stuart Clark (2/58) on debut. Shane Warne and Andrew Symonds were punished and went wicketless on a pitch that favoured the seam bowlers.

Rain Washes Out 2nd Days Play

The overcast skies at Hobart have produced a downpour which washed out the entire 2nd days play in the 3rd test. The showers will created further problems for the Indians, who have to win the test to regain the Border/Gavaskar Trophy. It is expected that day 3 will be clear enough for play but it is unsure how long the showers will hold off.

(Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden sit patiently waiting for the rain to subside)
