Clark Finishes Dissapointed - Australia 9/163

Stuart Clark's first innings in test cricket finished slightly more premature than the big NSW fast bowler would have hoped for, as Australia crumbled further at 9/163.

Clarke lasted only a number of balls in his debut innings in the green helmet, after being tricked by Indian veteran Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar brought Clark along way forward defending the ball, however the ball moved enough in the air that it hit Clark on the toe plumb infront, the debut innings resulting in a duck.

Pathan Wraps Up Tail - Australia 10/166

Irfan Pathan claimed the wicket of Glenn McGrath as India cleaned up the Australian tail for an embarrassing 166. McGrath was caught at gully by V.V.S Laxman attempting to defend on the green pitch to a good length delivery on middle stump.

Australia crumbled to an embarrassing 166, giving the tourists a lead of 156 runs at 3.36 on day 3 of the 3rd and final test.

Kumble Steals Limelight

Leg spinner Anil Kumble suprisingly claimed the best figures for the Indian tourists in Australias first innings on what has been a traditionally favourable pitch for the seam bowlers. Kumble took 4/58 from 16 overs while Ajit Agarkar chimed in with 3/41.

Michael Clarke (66*) and Adam Gilchrist (36) were again the only batsmen to stand up and offer any resistance. Clarke showing that he is continualy maturing as a cricketer with a defiant 66 from 122 balls.

(A very dissapoining reply to Indias first innings score of 322)

(Michael Clarke showed he has the mental toughness necessary to be a key feature in the Australian middle order)

Indians Set About Business

Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir set about extending the home sides lead as they began the 2nd innings in the third and deciding test at Hobart. Leading the home side by 156 runs and with 7 sessions left to play, the tourists will look to build a lead around the 350 run mark with still a number of sessions left to play in an attempt to bowl Australia out again and win the Border/Gavaskar Trophy.

Openers Start Off Strong - India 0/57

Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir set off to a perfect start as they took their partnership to an unbeaten 0/57. It is the first time the pair have clicked as a partnership, taking their lead to 213. Gambhir currently looking to be the dominant batsman with 31 while Sehwag is supporting with 19.

Gambhir Falls Just Short - India 1/81

Gautam Gambhir fell only two runs short of his third half century of the Australian tour when he was dismissed for 48 by Brett Lee. Attempting to increase the run rate, Gambhir looked to bring up his half century with a chip over mid on. Unfortunatly the batsman fell a couple of metres short, the ball only finding Glenn McGrath on the ropes.

However Gambhir will count his job as being a successful one, giving his side quick runs, just what was required in this situation.

Sehwag Follows Next Over - India 2/81

Shane Warne made the second breakthrough of the innings with the wicket of Virender Sehwag for 25 as India slipped to 2/81. Warne tempted Sehwag into a mistimed sweep shot that caught the top edge and flew into the air. The ball eventually landing at mid wicket, being caught by Justin Langer.

Unfortunatly for Indian fans, the opener has looked out of sorts on this tour, however with the 50 and 25 in this test match, signs show that he may be on the improve for the one day series following this match.

This is a great story. Keep it up. And I'd like to see Brad Haddin in the squad for the One Day Series.

brad haddin will definatly be in the squad for the one day series with india and pakistan. and inside word is that he will also tour the west indies for both the test and one day teams.

i can assure people that a squad rotation system will be used for the vb triangular series so there will be a chance to rest some players who have played alot of cricket lately (eg mcgrath, gilchrist, ponting)

Lee Gets The Maestro - India 3/86

Brett Lee showed he is becoming a vital member of the Australian test team with the vital wicket of Sachin Tendulkar for a duck as India slipped to be 3/86 late on day 3. The little Indian maestro looked to get off the mark by flicking Lee through the vacant mid wicket region. However he misjudged the pace of the ball slightly and spooned a simple catch to Justin Langer at square leg.

First innings centurian and hero Sourav Ganguly will now join captain Rahul Dravid at the crease to look to extend the lead even further with only 3 overs remaining in the day.

India Pair Reach Stumps - Day 3

The Indian pairing of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly managed to reach stumps against a fired up pace attack lead by Brett Lee as the tourists reached 3/103 when bad light stopped play.

Both remained unbeaten on 5 not out after Gautam Gambhir had laid the ground work with 48. Brett Lee took the best figures of the final session with 2/30.

Captains Words - Stumps Day 3

"The general feeling around the team is that we are in a very strong position in this match. If we can continue to strike the ball well and our bowlers can do the job with the ball then we have a real chance of winning this match. Hopefully the weather will hold off long enough for us to get the result we are after here.

I was delighted with the way we came back at the Australians with the ball. Full credit to Sourav for his innings of 100 and then for Anil and Ajit to really come home for us with the ball. There is alot of enthusiasm from everyone here so it will be a great finish to a great series"

Rahul Dravid
(Indian Captain)

"Coming off a sensational start to the match with the ball, im very dissapointed with the position we are in at the moment. Thankfully Clarkey stood up with the bat and we are still right in with a chance of fending off a draw or quite possibly a win. We will need quick wickets tomorrow to keep ourselves in the hunt. However with the batting lineup we have at our disposal, i still believe we are a chance of winning this test."

Ricky Ponting
(Australian Captain)

Clark Strikes Early - India 4/103

Stuart Clark made the breakthrough with only the 2nd ball of the 4th days play with the dismissal of Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly was adjudged LBW without adding to his overnight score of 5 as India halted on 4/103.

Clark trapped Ganguly while bowling around the wicket, the big seamer producing a ball that cut back in to the left handers off stump. While there may have been questions raised over the height of the ball, the umpires decision has given Australia slightly more hope in coming back into the match.
