Ajit Agarkar made the perfect breakthrough to put India firmly on the front foot as Australia fell at 1/6. Matthew Hayden was the man to go after being adjudged LBW for only 4. In continues a lean home summer for the Queensland opener, who would have hoped for a big score to impress selectors ahead of the tour to the West Indies.
It puts further pressure on the home side in their bid to either win or draw the final deciding test match. Ricky Ponting will now look to match the 95 set by his opposing captain Rahul Dravid as he looks to get his side back in the match.
Rahul Dravids amazing day continued when his gamble to bowl Sachin Tendulkar paid off with the wicket of Justin Langer as Australia stuttered to 2/50. Langer followed his partner Matthew Hayden off, also adjudged LBW, this time attempting to sweep the part time leggie.
The gamble paid off bowling the part timer 1st change and put Australia firmly under the pump and will rely on Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke to begin digging themselves out of a deep hole.
Indian paceman Zaheer Khan claimed the vital scalp of Austrlaian captain Ricky Ponting for an attacking 44 to put Australia further on the back foot at 3/104. Ponting was caught out by the different pace of Khan as he easily chipped the ball to the waiting hands of Anil Kumble at square leg.
It puts futher pressure on the home side with still an hours play remaining on the 4th day.
Australian 1st innings hero Michael Clarke fell prematurely for 28 as Australia slipped up again in its run chase to be 4/128. Clarke was beaten by the movement of Irfan Pathan to edge the ball to Ajit Agarkar, who was supprisingly standing at 3rd slip. It was a dissapointing end to yet another promising innings from the young New South Welshman, who compiled an unbeaten half century in the 1st innings to go with his century in the 2nd test.
Inexperienced test pair Andrew Symonds and Michael Hussey will now look to see out the final half hour without loosing a wicket.
everyone please note that i have just updated the 1st page of this thread. it gives you hyperlinks to all games played so far and important events that have occured along with a more colourful display of teams competing. let me know your thoughts.
Michael Hussey followed the trend set by Australias top order after he was dismissed for 16 by Zaheer Khan to leave Australia in severe trouble at 5/132. Hussey was left fishing at a great ball by the left arm quick, achieving only to get an outside edge to Rahul Dravid waiting at gully. It was a dissapointing result for the newcomer, after he started very well to take his score to 16, all scored in boundaries through the off side with lovely cover drives.
The Australian middle order rot has well and truely set in with wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist falling for only 4 as Australia fall to 6/138. Gilchrist was also beaten by movement created by Zaheer Khan as he edged to Ajit Agarkar at 3rd slip, the fast bowler a suprise inclusion in the corden. The wicket putting India firmly on the front foot and within only 4 wickets of a test and series victory.
