Zaheer Khan has put Australia firmly under pressure as stumps were drawn on the 4th days play at Hobart today. Khan took 3/71 as the Australian middle order crumbled to be 6/153. It has been a pathetic performance from an under pressure top order with Ricky Ponting (44) the only batsman to stand up against the attack.
Andrew Symonds (11 not out) and Shane Warne (5 not out) will hope to bat as long as possible tomorrow with 246 runs remainding for victory. If Australia can bat out tomorrows 3 sessions then they will win the test match, however with only 4 wickets left that looks beyond even the best team in the world.
Sachin Tendulkar claimed his second wicket of the innings with the dismissal of Andrew Symonds for 33 as Australia fell one wicket closer to a humilating defeat with the score at 7/197. Symonds looked to attack the part time leg spinner but was trapped LBW while looking in good form.
However if Australia were to lose this match and the series, Symonds, who is yet to make a large contribution to the team in his return to the test arena, could find himself on the outer ahead of the West Indies tour.
Shane Warne had his stumps shattered by Irfan Pathan as Australia slipped closer to a loss with the total now 8/185. Pathan showed he was too good for Warne, who played outside the line of the ball, the ball swining in late and crashing into middle and off stump.
India can now taste victory and the bowlers are in for the kill.
India are now only 1 nail away from seeling the Australian coffin with the dismissal of Brett Lee leaving the tourists at 9/205. Anil Kumble took a great catch at square leg off the bowling of Irfan Pathan to dismiss Lee while the quick was looking confidant on 20.
Only 1 wicket now stands between the tourists and a dramatic series victory.
Ajit Agarkar finished of a convincing victory for the tourists as India swamped Australia by 177 runs to take the 3rd test, the series and the Border/Gavaskar Trophy.
Stuart Clark had the unpleasent honour of being the last man dismissed in his debut test for Australia after he was caught behind looking to push the ball of the back foot through the cover region.
Rahul Dravid the happiest man on field, celebrating a victory over the world champions and the conclusion of one of the most exciting test series in some time.
before we look too far to the west indies tour dont forget that the ODI series with india and pakistan is about to begin. its the vb series which im sure will be much closer than the topsy turvy test series.
As shown above many of the Australian batsmen made starts to their innings but couldnt go on with in one of the most dissapointing days in recent memory for Austrlian cricket (rivalling the loss in the ashes last year).
Like you have said previously in other it is great to see the CPU getting up over us and winning, especially in this thread. Well done mate I'm looking forward to whatever is up next.
