I'm not sure what you guys think about the punishment dished out to Vernon Philander after his recent ball tampering prosecution but I thought it was pathetic. A match fee fin? What about a ban? It was only a few years ago when certain players were banned for ball tampering, has the law changed now? If so, when did it change?

I personally believe the stance on ball tampering should be much more strict, ban him for 2 tests, fine him his match fee and also fine the captain...surely none of this happened without his team mates knowledge?

The ICC is just such a shambles, one law for some, another law for others.

seriously, no one has an opinion on this? on how one of the best test sides on the planet have to resort to cheating to try and win?

Yeah he should be banned for a few matches, these fines are ridiculously inconsistent.

du Plessis - 50% match fee
Philander - 75% match fee

^They've both done the same thing so why not give them the same punishment?

I think there should be a fixed punishment for everyone. It is disgraceful that there is different punishment for two individuals doing the same offence.

completely agree guys, and there needs to be a push in the ICC for equality...but that has obviously taken a massive step back with the "Big Three" and their dominance.

Then again this has been the case for many years, I remember watching Atherton, then captain of England ball tamper and he was given a fine whereas other players have been given match bans, if I'm not mistaken, Afridi was given a two match T20 ban.

I personally couldn't care less about ball tampering or chucking these days but I'm sure I'm in the minority. Anything to help the bowlers these days must be stopped...:facepalm

Exactly no member will ever be equal in the ICC again. I await for the rumblings to start between the unholy trinity. Events have begun to unfold in England already with the Jadeja/Anderson row. Its not a matter of if rather a matter of when they fall apart, only then can we think of equality and streamlining of the ICC rules and regulations.

Yeah, the Jadeja/Jimmy issue has really added some spice to the relationship between the BCCI and the ECB, having said that, I'm sure the ECB knows their place financially and won't be too vocal on the situation. They know not to bite the hand that feeds them.

These days , bowlers needs more help to get exciting Cricket going again.

So I say , legalise some form of ball altering(Thats currently not legal) for the sake of Swing .

And then Ban a player for doing anything other than the permitted Methods , for at least 2 matches.

But we do need more swing , and reverse swing in Test Cricket , I hate these dull draws

it's weird how attitudes have changed sine the 80s and 90s :lol

Afridi got a harsher penalty because it was not a first offense and he was captain at the time. Philander and faf being first offenses were always going to get lighter sentences. Don't like what they did thought, believe we can win without it.
