Bangladesh vs New Zealand Test Match - Dhaka

day 1

BASHAR KNOCK GIVES TIGERS UPPER HAND

A unbeaten 148 by Habibul Bashar saw Bangladesh go in at 300-4 at stumps on day 1 , the Bangladeshi`s had earlier in the day been reduced to 63-3 ,first Nafees was outfoxed by a Martin delivery that nipped back to remove his off stump for 8 and shortly afterwards fellow opener Javed Omar smashed one to mid on off Jacob Oram for 21 ,then a silly run out by Ashraful on 13 left them 63-3 ,this left Bashar joined by Aftab Ahmed who knuckled down to take some of the sting out of the bowling attack ,Aftab was looking comfortable just short of his 50 when Oram trapped him lbw for 46 it was a blow for Bangladesh but Bashar`s 100 soon eased the pain ,it was a magnificant knock by the captain hitting 13 fours and a towering 6 off Franklin , he was now being aided by Alok Kapali ,the two of them went on to share a unbroken 5th wicket stand of 134 .

day 2

SINCLAIR DIGS IN FOR TOURSITS

The test match is evenly poised at stumps on day 2 at Dhaka cricket ground , Bangladesh started the day on 300-4 with captain Bashar on a Bangladesh best of 148 ,he duely got the 2 runs needed to bring up his 150 which brought the house down in the crowd with some fans spilling onto the pitch to congratulate the history maker ,after the stewards finally cleared the pitch Bashar was draped in a Bangladesh flag which he hoisted in the air along with his bat which he pointed to the tigers dressing room ,it was a great moment for the veteran capain who just recently was under pressure in the South Africa series with poor scores ,but 115 at Chittagong in the 2nd ODI and now this 150 has quietened his critcics.
NewZealand got a break though when Kapali who had hit his 50 a ball after Bashar hit his 150 edged a wide delivery off Franklin with McCullum diving to take a great catch to silence the partizan crowd , Mushifiqer Rahim playing in his first test then must have wished for the ground to open up and swallow him when he had a nightmare of an over ,first delivery to Rahim he called a single which Bashar had no hope of getting home , exellent throw by Sinclair to McCullum with Bashar not even in the picture , so Bashar run out for 160 ,disaster for Rahim for calling it as well but things were about to get worse for the rookie when Oram came in next ball to trap him lbw for a duck.
experianced Rafique put on a good show with a nice unbeaten 39 but by now the kiwi bowlers had their tails up and soon polished off the tail to leave Bamgladesh all out for 387 ,highest in their history .
The New Zealand reply got off one hour before tea with Fleming and How , and it was Mushrafe Mortaza who got the early breakthrough bowling a bemused Fleming for 10 ,two overs later he did the exact same removing How`s off stump for 9 to leave New Zealand 24-2 ,Sinclair and McMillna then saw the toursits in for tea at 55-2 .
Bangladesh came out with some aggresive bowling after tea and it payed off when Shahadat Hossain bowled a yorker which McMillan got all tied up with hense a large team appeal and McMillan was walking for 13 ,McCullum came and went for a quick fire 26 leaving Styris unbeaten on 13 and a lovely innings by Matthew Sincalir who is still there on 67 , New Zealand 155-4 at close.

day 3

NEW ZEALAND PEG BACK THE TIGERS

New Zealand have turned this test match back to their favour after a good display with the ball on day three , the tourists had started the day off batting on 155-4 and the two overnight batsmen started off cautiously until Tapash Baiysa got the first wicket of the day bowling Styris for 24 but then Oram and Sinclair frustrated the tigers attack with a nice partnership ,Rafique was the bowler to break the partnership when he got one to nip back to Oram for 40 ,soon after Matthew Sinclair`s nice innings came to and end when he edged Shahadat Hossain to Aftab Ahmed for 82 ,Daniel Vettori briefly got going before the toursits finally being all out for 270 giving Bangladesh and 1st innings lead of 117.
The Bangladesh reply got into all sorts of bother as they tried to get a steady partnership on the cards ,Omar(13), Ashraful(12) and 1st innings hero Bashar (12) all going early ,olnly Nafees (42 not out) kept New Zealand at bay with some lovely cover drives but New Zealand will feel the bowlers have brought them back into this test match , Bangladesh 115-4 at close on day 3.

Day 4

DHAKA POISED FOR DRAMATIC CLIMAX TO TEST

There was nothing much between the sides at stumps on day 4 , Bangladesh started the day on 115-4 ,and started brightly fending off the out of sorts Bond and Martin`s early spells so Fleming brought on Franklin and his left arm swingers caused havoc , first Kapali was out lbw for 41 then Rahim again struggled making 6 before also falling lbw to Franklin ,two overs later and a mix up saw Rafique ran out for 3 to bring New Zealand back into it . The crowd were soon off their feet though when Nafees reached his ton ,it was a great innings from the opener , two balls later the crowd were on their feet once again but this time it was to see their star batsman walk back to the pavillion for 101 ,Mortaza put on some fireworks at the end but the tigers were soon all out for 260 leaving New Zealand 378 to win with the afternoon session and one day left.
Steven Fleming and Jamie How walked out to the crease in what was going to be an awkward last session of cricket for New Zealand ,both openers started well and saw off Baiysa and Mortaza , spinner Rafique came in to bowl with 30 mins remaining of the day and got a result from the off with a caught and bowl back off Fleming for 26 ,and then with 3 balls left of the day he struck again removing How for 40 lbw leaving the tourists on 84-2 at stumps with New Zealand needing a further 294 to win on day 5 , tigers need 8 wickets .

BANGLADESH vs NEW ZEALAND TSET MATCH - DHAKA

Day 5

NEW ZEALAND EDGE HOME IN THRILLER

New Zealand won the test match by 2 wickets with 56 minutes to spare but they made life difficult for themselves in the afternoon session , in the morning Bashar held back the dangerous looking Rafique and threw in Mortaza & Shahadat but both failed to get the early wicket the tigers so desperatly needed ,Tapash Baiysa came in to the attack and did get some joy in halting the rapid run rate but still no wickets ,Shahadat finally did get the breakthrough when Sinlcair edged to Rahim for 55 not long before lunch .
After lunch the runs needed was 200 ,so Bangladesh knew they needed wickets fast because McMillan was destroying their attack he was now partnered by McCullum who also was finding the boundries easy to come by ,all seemed lost for Bangladesh as McMillan reached 100 while McCullum was on 70 , Bashar brought on Rafique and Kapali both had a spell before lunch which was fended off by the kiwi batsmen.
The Dhaka crowd who had been silent most of the day finally had something to shout about when McMillan fell for 103 and then McCullum agonisingly for 99 both caught behind ,this gave the tigers hope with two new batsmen at the crease , Rafique was turning the ball sharply in the foot holes and Oram(12) & Styris(22) both fell in the same over to set of frantic scenes on and off the park , Kapali came in next over and James Franklin got a thick edge to Nafees but he couldnt hold on to it , New Zealand were in pieces they needed just 8 runs , Rafiques first ball of the next over to Vettori gave Nafees another chance and this time he held onto it New Zealand were 370-8 , Bond joined Franklin and eased the pressure by smashing Rafique down the ground for four ,a few more scambled singles and the test match was won , great come back by New Zealand having trailed by 117 after the 1st innings.
