Best Asian Cricket X1 (Test & One day) of all time

We have seen recently a couple of interesting threads on Best All time One day and Test X1.

So I thought as a change why not give it a shot at All time Asian X1 – Both Test and One day.

By the way I want to remind at the very outset that this is in no way done to offend any Non Asian Cricket fans.

This is my choice:

Test X1

1 Sunil Gavaskar
2 Sachin Tendulkar
3 Zaheer Abbas
4 Md Azharuddin
5 Inzamam-ul-Haq
6 Kumar Sangakkara (Wicket Keeper)
7 Imran Khan (Captain)
8 Kapil Dev
9 Wasim Akram
10 Muttiah Muralitharan
11 Abdul Kader

1- 6 Six Specialist batsmen that includes Kumar Sangakkara who can play the role of Specialist batsman in addition to doing the function of a Wicket Keeper batsman.

7 -9 Three Specialist Bowlers (Pacers) and Bowling All Rounders as well.

10 -11 Two Specialist Spin bowlers.

I am sorry 5 capable and deserving players left out: Javed Miandad, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Md Yousuf and Chaminda Vaas – one can choose only one player from the very best.

One day X1

1 Virender Sehwag
2 Sanath Jayasurya
3 Aravinda de Silva
4 Sachin Tendulkar
5 Inzamam-ul-Haq
6 Yuvraj Singh
7 MS Dhoni (Wicket Keeper)
8 Imran Khan(Captain)
9 Kapil Dev
10 Wasim Akram
11 Muttiah Muralitharan

1-7 Seven Specialist batsman that includes MS Dhoni who can play the role of Specialist batsman in addition to doing the function of a Wicket Keeper batsman.

8 -10 Three Specialist Bowlers (Pacers) and Bowling All Rounders as well.

11 One Specialist Spin bowler

The One day XI is full of part time bowlers as well: Jayasurya, Sehwag, Tendulkar and Yuvraj all can bowl reasonably well and has proven records of striking when it matters.

I am sure many readers will have a better choice.

I will appreciate inputs from readers to enrich the thread and make it more interesting.

I think that's a pretty balanced line up. Two years ago I would've had Dravid at 1 down, and in a couple of years I might have Sehwag instead of Merchant in there. I usually like to go with four pacers but its tough not to include two spinners when you're making an Asian XI and have India and Sri Lanka at your disposal. Besides, with four pacers the team would be a little Pakistan heavy as I would probably want to go for Fazal Mahmood over Kapil Dev.
