Calling Pakistan the best batting line up in the world would be like me trying to say that South Africa is, when I know that its Australia.

well i think Sehwag can produce the destructiveness of Gilly but remember Gilly has been playing for quite some time now but you still cannot say that Gilly wins hands down. Sehwag has proved many times that how destructive he is. Remember Katich is struggling to keep his place on his team so Laxman and him cannot be judged too much (for right now). Definitely Tendulkar over Martyn. I.Pathan comes back to Test and he is somewhat of a all-rounder.
Sehwag> Langer ( i think we all remember 309)
Gambhir< Hayden (Hayden no doubt)
Dravid> Ponting( considering Dravid is a tad bit more consistent)
Tendulkar>Martyn(DUHHH)
Ganguly>Clarke (Ganguly is out of form but still has 2nd most 100s in ODIs)
Laxman=Katich (they both ??)
Karthick<Gilly (ofcourse)
I.Pathan=S.Warne( Pathan has just started showing his batsmanship)
Kumble<B.Lee
H.Singh<Gillespie
Z.Khan>McGrath (175 even against Bangladesh is pretty good)

P.S-India's batting is better on paper but Aussies form is damn good

between australia and india, it has to be asutralia they are so consistent whereas india have on and off days with batting

i think in 1 or 2 years time england will have the best batting lineup they have some big hitters, i also think south africa has improved vastly in odis in the last 7-8 months and they can also in the near future have one of the best batting line ups

Some people have given Martyn over Sachin so I would like to stick my neck out and say what bout Matt Hayden. This guy hasnt done anything worthwhile since this years Indian tour.

Also comparison:
Sehwag scores over Langer (anyday).
Gambhir looses to Hayden (form not taken into consideration)
Dravid scores over Ponting (nobody remebers Ponting playing in India or what)
Sachin over Martyn (Sachin playing with his broom)
Ganguly scores over Clarke (experience and also Clarke hasnt been tested enough)
Laxman over Katich (Laxman in the legside alone is better than Katich)
Karthick/Dhoni loose out to Gilchrist hand down.(obvious)
Pathan over Warne (moan as much as you can but fact remains)
Kumble looses to Brett Lee (Breto has good hitting abilities)
Harbhajan and Gillespie equal ( nothing to choose between them)
Zaheer over McGrath (even if Zaheer plays lefty afterall he is the world record holder)

Also to testify the fact Indians routed the Aussie bowling attack in thier homeland .
So no more "cant play bouncy ball" phenomenon.

I think Laxman and Ganguly's points above could be disputed. Clarke is far too inexperienced to judge yet, but Ganguly has not been consistent in the recent past. When Katich comes into bat for Australia (especially against India) he seems like a rock and very difficult to remove. I think Laxman gives quite a few chances, unless he is on song, when he can be compared to the best.

India has a whole list of domestic batsmen that aren't even being looked at because of the big names in the current team. Forget the guys who have won us international trophies on the junior level--but look at a guy like Mongia! Dinesh Mongia has had a great season with Leicestershire with bat and ball but he wasn't even in the probables list (or was he?).

Mongia was given a chance and failed. Don't know about the other indians as i never hear much about them down here

To each his own. I don't really know about the Aussie domestic league either, although I must admit that Hussey was impressive.

Well Australia bowed out of the u-19 WC loosing to Zimbabwe and even Nepal. So look at that situation and if I am right guys like Hussey and Hodge will go(retire) with the likes of Martyn and Ponting.Soeven if you havethem they will remain in the sidelines forever.

If you never heard of any Indian batsman then let me tell you bout one of them by the name of SHIKHAR DHAWAN.Man of the Series in the u-19 WC and single handedly took INDIA to the final of the u-19 WC.

Also if you didnt followed that just look in this years University's match between Cambridge and Oxford. The guy that won them the match is an Indian hopeful.

There are so many Indian batsmen coming up the ranks--Shikhar Dhawan, Dheeraj Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu to mention a few. Australia have a major problem because even the players on their sidelines are 30+. There'll be no problem if they perform, of course.

We've got players like Dominic Thornely, Phil Jaques, David Hussey and Shaun Tait who are all extremely talented and are under 30

Its pretty strange that so few of you have mentioned Inzi, I mean he is the ultimate one day player, he can attack, build innings and hold fort when Pakistan are in trouble and plus his test batting is outstanding, whereas other captains have dips in form when they take over, Inzi has just gone from strength to strength, basically when Inzi scores Pakistan win.

It's outright stupidity to compare batsmen to their opposite numbers and declare one team the winner. Batsmen don't play each other, they play the bowlers. So you can argue that Tendulkar, Dravid and Sehwag are the best no. 4, no. 3 and opener till you're blue in the face, but are Gambhir, Laxman and Ganguly as good as Hayden, Martyn and Ponting? Laxman and Ganguly haven't scored a century in 18 months. In fact, in the past 12 months, Australia have scored 17 centuries to India's 9.

Simply put, Australia has 4 batsmen averaging over 50, 7 batsmen averaging over 40, while India has 3 averaging over 50, 6 over 40 and don't have the fat tail like South Africa. Yeah, that's right, before you start a thread about who has the best lower order, it is South Africa. No doubts.

OK thanks for playing, end of thread.
