Blockers bits... (retro)

I don't know much about Kortright but that is a very good attack!

I can't claim I knew anything of him before researching this team, but he's on a lot of "best never to play a test" type lists, especially England-centric or older lists. In his span of playing he was considered the fastest bowler in the game, and it's claimed he bowled a bouncer that went for 6 byes!

Took 489 first-class wickets at 21.05, and was a decent enough batsman: 4,404 runs at 17.61 including 2 centuries.

I guess back then only England and Australia played "Tests" (he played 1889-1907), so there wasn't a lot of matches to be involved in, but even so with a record like that you wonder how he never played.

He was too hot to handle in this game, 4-26. (I also played a "warm up" against your Windies 1930s, and he took 6-60 but it still didn't stop me getting spanked by 9 wickets!)

I assume they mean that it went for 4 byes but by flying directly over the rope. Considering that is how the rule works, no such thing as 6 byes.

19.7.1 A Boundary 6 will be scored if and only if the ball has been struck by the bat and is first grounded beyond the boundary without having been in contact with the ground within the field of play. This shall apply even if the ball has previously touched a fielder.

19.7.2 A Boundary 4 will be scored when a ball that is grounded beyond the boundary

- whether struck by the bat or not, was first grounded within the boundary, or

- has not been struck by the bat.

Have you verified this rule was in effect during the period 1889-1907??

tbh I have my doubts as to the veracity of the claim anyway...

Looking at the 1884 code, there is no clarification.

I expect, if it did happen, and the opposing captain agreed it should have been a six, then it would have been. Very interesting, consider my nerd status: quashed.

Alan Igglesden - 3 matches, 6 wickets at 54.83;

Ah, that reminds me of one of my favourite jokes from The Googly magazine back in the day.

It was in their cricket FAQ section.

"Q. What are those two big white squares at either end of the ground for?

A. They are Andy Caddick and Alan Igglesden, and there's no need to get personal."

Hope he's doing ok these days.

Just containing my various uploads into a thread as I've started to get some teams and stuff up on the server.

First up, and standing on the shoulder of giants so to speak - I have shared versions of @gleeso73 England 30s (added Tommy Mitchell) and Australia 30s (added Perker Lee, Lisle Nagel, Jack Fingleton, Ernie Bromley and Hammy Love) in order to have all players that participated in the bodyline series.

I also shared a version of gleeso's WSC World XI, where I added several non-west indian players. In season 1 of WSC the world XI leaned heavily on West Indies, but in season 2 more players were added to give the World XI a better squad and allow real tri-series. I've added some of these.

I'm not seeking to pinch any credit from gleeso, who has done an amazing job.

these teams are shared under mrdconnors
Love the “Golden Age” Cricket! Thanks to all who have created and shared all this! Was thinking of adding a few historic teams and players myself (a breather from having to upload and create all the advertisements and sponsors) - if you would like me to help out in anyway with any other of your historical stuff I’d be happy to try.

@blockerdave Just testing out the 1920’s teams. Not a bad mornings work at Lord’s. Getting rid of the dangerous Constantine for a duck from 10 balls was the highlight for me! Cracking creations - thanks.

If you make any retro team I’m sure to play with it against them at some time!

For myself my current plans are any of

1) Finish the SAB XI (Gooch/Boycott rebel team from 81/82 I need to make 3 players for)

2) Make some springbok 80s players to play some of the tours (probably start with the Aus or England 89 tours)

3) Make the Aus/Springbok 1970 teams

4) make the 1987 World Cup final for a scenario

So if you wanted to do any of those be my guest, but equally as I say if you make anything else retro I’ll play it!

I’ve just shared the 1987 World Cup England and Australia sides, along with a scenario for the final - Gatting has just got out, can you win it as England from there?

(Unbelievable how the game has changed, at that point England needed 118 from nearly 18 overs with 7 wickets in hand!)

Some players (and I think the main Aus logo I’ve used) by @gleeso73 (most Aussie players his in fact) other players by me and England Logos by @Llewelynf

I’ve added a Kolkata stadium too, not sure who this is by. - EDIT - this is possibly by @Ramz

Same for bats - no idea who’s they are, if you see yours and want credit hit me up.[DOUBLEPOST=1561189394][/DOUBLEPOST]I’ve also just shared the South African Breweries English XI - the first of the “Rebel Tour” teams, led by Graham Gooch in 1981/82.

Logos by Llewelyn as ever, most players by me, a few by Gleeso.

Some springboks to come soon.

I think Kolkata is by @Ramz.

Made this guy for a laugh... playing a game with him now but so far there's not been much chance for mischief due to a flat pitch.

Gives me an idea for making Darrell Harper...

Someone should make Umpire Darrell Hair and make the lbw judgement like 5

Reckon I might stick this in my next stream. Been thinking of doing one with some retro scenarios in
