Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

Hopeless, absolutely hopeless. As someone said, if Zaheer breaks down, Aravind might be the guy coming in instead of Pathan, I think. Such ridiculous selections!!! Basically if one of Zak/Ishant/Yadav get injured, we are screwed royally. These guys never learn, never EVER!!! Seeing all these replacements, now I feel sorry for wanting Praveen Kumar to be injured. For all these guys, Praveen was not a bad choice at all. I AM REALLY SORRY, PRAVEEN!!!:noway

----------

Seriously pissed and will be more pissed if Vinay gets a game ahead of Umesh or for a fact even Mithun gets a game ahead of Umesh.

Zaheer has said he is feeling more then fit which makes him sure in the XI

Dhoni
R Ashwin
Zaheer Khan
Umesh Yadav
Ishant Sharma

I am confident Yadav will be the third seamer in the XI after Zak and Ishant. If it does not happen at the MCG, I will not watch a single ball of that tour (i.e. show my middle finger to Dhoni and these selectors)

Wonder if Pathan can have a comeback reminiscient of Sidebottom a few years back. If he takes the wickets Ryan did with his improved maturity then he could still be useful with his batting.

Personally, I think he'll get taken apart by anyone who is set in Australia as the ball doesn't swing for long.

You dont need much time to get Hughes out these days tbh. ;)

Haha, very true. Although, does normally help if you can bowl over 80mph to Hughes.

You do realize that Pathan is a spin bowler with a longer run up :p How can you expect him to bowl over 80 MPH. Blasphemy... :p

----------

On the other hand, whats with all the debutants getting five fers or having a brilliant debut all over the world . Philander, Cummins, Yadav, Aaron, Ashwin, Rahul Sharma, Pattinson... If the pattern holds they should keep on picking new players after every few match :p

Why is everyone going crazy about Pathan? He's taken some Ranji wickets, but he was always going to do that. Even Joginder Sharma does well in Ranji cricket. He hasn't actually improved his game. Rajat Bhatia said he was still bowling at about 120ks. Saisrini, you are a hypocrit and so is everyone else who didn't want Praveen in the squad. Irfan and Praveen bowl at the same pace.

Honestly, Irfan deserves at least one chance. If he manages to find that old swing at 125-130Kmph, I'll rather have him in the team than Mithun/Vinay garbage. I don't know why selectors were in such a hurry. They could have waited till the end of series to name the replacement.:facepalm

If I'm India I'd be playing 2 spinners I think. SCG and Adelaide both turn, MCG depends on the pitch but I think Ohja will trouble the Aussies more than Yadav will. Perth's the only place where a lot of spin won't really be helpful.

I haven't seen either of the bowlers mentioned but if this article is right and they can hit the mid 140s then they sound promising to me.

r u talking about yadav ?
he can bowl 140+ at will. whether it is first ball of the day or last ball of the day, this guy will bowl it above 140. if he gets a wicket, then 145+.
India have lost all their backup (second choice bowler) bowlers. I hope yadav/zaheer/ishant plays atleast 3 tests together.

Although whole series will depend upon our batting, which is due for some big runs.

Hughes gets another lifeline | Cricket | Fox Sports

Decent enough sides although Nevill as keeper would have topped it off. Look forward to seeing how Maxwell and Boyce go in the spin department. And the fast bowlers.

I would like to see Ed Cowan, Tom Cooper, Shaun Marsh and Doug Bollinger in my test squad.

1. D. Warner
2. E. Cowan
3. S. Marsh
4. M. Clarke
5. S. Watson
6. T. Cooper
7. M. Wade
8. R. Harris
9. J. Pattinson
10. P. Cummins
11. N. Lyon

12. U. Khawaja / P. Forrest
13. M. Marsh / D. Christian
14. D. Bollinger / T. Copeland
15. B. Hilfenhaus / G. Maxwell

This would be my test squad of choice.

After Pathan's performance in Ranaji trophy this season he has showed that he deserves a chance.

I am not believing much in what Rajat Bhatia says. And with Irfan, when he is in rhythm, he can clock speeds of 132-135kph and I have been hearing that he is getting very much into his rhythm. I dont back Praveen to clock such speeds even when he is in full rhythm. And with Irfan, his batting and his vibrant personality/attitude also adds a big benefit to his CV (Praveen's body language and attitude has also never impressed me most of the time). And my comment about feeling sorry for not wanting Praveen was more because of the replacements selected. I still HAVE NO HOPES IN PRAVEEN KUMAR BEING A LONG TERM PROSPECT FOR INDIAN CRICKET unless he increases his pace drastically.

Maybe the selectors have decided that Irfan wont play the 5th ODI in Chennai.

^^
If its true than i think he can't get back to the squad for almost two months as test team is already been selected...
And without playing a single ODI he will back to the Baroda.
This has been all-time problem with Indian players.
Selectors pick a player on the domestic basis but he can't find place in playing XI and than some other guy performs well in domestic matches and replaces him.
And the cycle continues...
Very few get chance to play an international match on his first time selection.
