lunchtime update
Sussexy XI batted first
End of Over 50: 322-4, runrate=6.44

Batsmen 1
Hislop* 52 (70 balls)
21.1 W Mellor to Hislop
What a corker ..... Hislop just watched on as Mellor sent the off stump into row Z!!! The crowd appreciated that one
Batsmen 2
Wheater* 78 (100 balls)
36.2 W Wingham to Wheater
Pitched up and swatted out towards the leg side boundary, a great catch on the ropes denies him the six.
Batsmen 3
Bird 108 (84 balls)
47.3 W Mckenna to Bird
Bird tries to cut a ball that was too close to his body but ends up chopping it onto his stumps. A disappointing way to go.
Batsmen 3
Hodgkiss* 18 (12 balls)
40.2 W Sadlier to Hodgkiss
Hodgkiss went for a cut shot off a short, wide delivery but played on to the stumps. A real bonus for Sadlier!
Batsmen 5
Halliwell 39 (25 balls)
Batsmen 6
Etherington* 18 (10 balls)

Sadlier 10-0-80-1
way too expensive, had a bad start and it just got worse and worse
Mellor 10-0-57-1
Questions must be asked? Is he good enough?
Wingham 10-1-55-1
Had an off day but didn't perform particularly poorly, probably brought into the attack too early
Howell 10-0-55-0
not good but if he doesn't take wickets he'll always be expensive
Mckenna 10-0-72-1
bowled well but got taken apart at the death by some slogging

Broady need 323 to win off 50 overs at a required rate of 6.44

Thats a huge ask  Gud luck with the chase!

Yeps , that is a very tough task .Good luck with the chase. Hope you have not assigned anyone with defensive skilld.

Post match update

After a very poor performance with the ball a valiant effort from debutant Dangasela of 68 and a stand of over 100 with Blair left us looking like we had a serious chance of taking htis match however the spinners came on mid innings and on the dusty wicket broke the partnership and brought the rate well out of reach. A fighting 50 from Ingram helped get us to a respectable score however he wasn't able to build upon it. Opener Thay was out early just done by a good ball without a chance to get in,making 4. Blair got in and got out sparking the end for Broady, making only 41. Number 5 Hockley came in for just 1 ball,a very dissapointing effort considering a lot of people regard him as one of the more talented batsmen at Broady with a proven pedigree with over 1000 runs at 45+. thn came THE knock from Fitz McKenna, his strong suit is definately batting however up until this point he'd never really gotten a chance to shine with the bat. Amazingly he came in and with a fighting Ingram and struggling lower order at the other end he smashed an unbeleivable 103 off 76. He came in on the hat-trick ball but after a nervy start he exploded with one of the best knocks the club has ever seen. A reasonable effort of 17 off 12 at the death from keeper Cockerill certainly shows the inproving nature of his batting. The tail however falied miserably with 8,9,10 and 11 making a total of 1 run between them, for 3 wickets and 4 balls. McKenna got out at the other end in a desperate bid for victory but in the end it was the expensive nature of our bowling that cost us falling 27 runs short of what we needed with 4 balls remaining bowled out for 295.

Interview with the boss Joe McDonald
Its time for an interview with manager Joe McDonald with interviewer and local cricket reporter Johnathan Agnew
JA: Joe how do you feel about the result today?
JM: I'm obviously upset for our cup run to be over already however against such quality opposition I feel certainly with the bat we showed some definate promise fro the coming season,I was dissapointed with the ball however I'll talk to the lads during the week, analyse what went wrong and look to iron out the issues but still draw from the positives.
JA: Your Bowlers were awfully expensive, anything your going to do about that?
JM: Well its interesting, you see I made the wrong decision in bowling McKenna for the death and not 1st change, I'm considering playing the extra pace man but that then leaves me with the issue of not being able to look at the recent lack of form from Mellor,I'll certainly have to find some cash from somewhere if i want to look in the market.
JA: Great debut from Dangasela, your thoughts?
JM: Well we knew this boy was class,I don't buy crap. After losing an early wicket it was a fantastic knock to come in with such pressure however towards the end the spinners built the rate up and got on top of him a little bit. He looks like hes got a great future ahead of him though
JA: Fitz McKenna!
JM: I know,we knew he could bat, he certainly made a statement for a move up the order today however with his first ever 100,a career SR of 100 says a lot about him but that knock was awe inspiring, shame his bowling couldn't have been tight enough to take us all the way but today he certainly gets my man of the match

Broadys man of the match goes to Fitz McKenna, expect an interview tomorrow along with a pops update.

Post your views on what went wrong for Broady!

That was so close.. In last 10 Overs, i thought it was possible.. If i rembr right, it was some RRR of 10 and 6 wickets in hand.. I thought u wud have won that! Tough luck joe.

2 very good pops there, could end up being key in or fight v relegation.

Interview with yesterdays man of the match Fitz McKenna:

JA: great knock Fitz, did you feel good about your batting going into the game?
FM: Well after my poor showing with the ball on a personal note i really felt i owed something to the team. Realy though all i could do was go out there and face each ball on its merits.
JA: Coming out on the hattrick ball did you honestly believe you could bring your side so close?
FM: to be honest Aggers i just had to go out there and bat, I looked at the game situation and realised that the only way we could come close would to be for me and Josh to be there at the end, I knew when facing each ball there was a good chance I'd react by playing an agressive shot as thats my nature so I just went to last as long as possible and play my natural game.
JA: The bowling? What went wrong for not just you but the whole attack?
FM: Well it was one of those dys where we would try and put the ball in the right area however it just didn't click for us. Their batsmen were certainly strong and against a side of their quality we can't afford to play like that
JA: great knock mate, good luck for the future
FM: thanks Aggers

Good luck on the story. I suggest you go out and buy a Med/Med/Med 17 YO to train. 2 primary and 1 fielding. he will be Med/Prof/Comp by 18, Med/Superb/Prof by 19, and Med/Remarkable/Superb by 20, maybe even better.

You were unlucky yesterday Joe, the oppenent was good though so it wasn't a bad result at all. McKenna was brilliant and Dangesela played well. At one point when you needed 9 an over off the last 11 I thought you still had a chance.

I'll need to get some money first :p

Thanks for the comments guys :happy

Selection Issues
I'm putting it to you the fans on selection issues, I've rejigged the batting order in an attempt to experiment. It now looks like this:
Dangasela
Blair
Ingram
Thay
???
McKenna
Cockerill
Mellor
Howell
Sadlier
Wingham

My bowling despite dissapointing has no real other possibiltys so I'm going tto have to stick with it till either some YPs come through or I get some cash to splash. The ???? is the position I can't decide so I thought I'd ask your advice, I have 2 batsmen:
George Hockley - 24 yo, BT Rating=7,208
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, superb batting form, strong bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with mediocre leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: respectable
Bowling: feeble Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: abysmal

Jeff Sturgess - 25 yo, BT Rating=4,289
RH Batsman, RF Bowler, superb batting form, respectable bowling form, sublime
A steady player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: feeble
Bowling: woeful Consistency: woeful
Fielding: mediocre
Theres not much in it I know but ho do you guys reckon will fair better in my new tougher league? Remember in his last game Sturgess made a 100 whilst Hockley hasn't really done it recently despite very good career stats.

Oh and I will be away next week so I guess I won't be updating, I'm sure you'll cope :p

I wud definitely go for George Hockley! May be he likes to bat in different position :p

Been thinking about selling Hockley actually because to a noob he might seem like a reasonable all rounder! He would help clear my debts ut i guess the same could be said with Sturgess,ah decisions decisions...

Ok I'm going for hockley because Suren said so :p

The league round 1 - Match Preview
Broady V
pack attack at the Stuart Broad Cricket Ground

Ratings:
Broady
Top Order: mediocre
Middle Order: feeble
Lower Order: worthless
Seam Bowling: feeble
Spin Bowling: feeble
Fielding: abysmal
My batting will be a bit messed up though because of the new order and my bowling shall be interesting with Sadliers pop.
pack attack
Top Order: competent
Middle Order: feeble
Lower Order: abysmal
Seam Bowling: mediocre
Spin Bowling: feeble
Fielding: woeful
If I can get out their top 2 early ten I've got a real chance of making a positive start to the season in what could be the toughest ask in Broady CC's history when they fight relegation.

Key man-- I expect big things from Sadlier today, his pop makes him a class above the rest!
The team:
Dangasela
Blair
Ingram
Thay
Hockley
McKenna (B3)
Cockerill
Mellor (B1)
Howell (B4)
Sadlier (B2)
Wingham (B5)
Mucked around with the batting order, lets see if it pays off...

Hockley for me. Higher concentration means he will score quicker, good for the late middle order. Handy bowler too.

Ok I'm going for hockley because Suren said so :p

So nice of you Joe :p And regarding the first match, a tough battle is what needed from your team.. Its going to be a close contest is what i feel.
