Budget Draft: Bargain Hunt

24 hours passed, thus posting my pick.

Wasim Jaffer for 14 points, one of the few guys, I felt should have played more Test cricket.

1944 Test runs @34.10
19410 FC runs @50.67

Abhinav Mukund
Wasim Jaffer
Ricky Ponting:c:
Mark Ramprakash
Travis Head
Robin Singh:bwl:
Ian Healy:wk:
Walter Mead:bwl:
Zaheer Khan:bwl:
Javed Akhtar:bwl:
Pankaj Singh:bwl:

@Neptune & @Yash. have outstanding picks.
@icyman you're next.

Rounding out my team will be Johnnie Clay (0) who is a proper club legend for Glamorgan as he contributed as a player, treasurer and selector. He bowled pace, leg spin and off spin (for which he was most well known) and peaked in 1937 when he took a hardly believable 176 wickets in a season. He's also very famous for refusing an England call up in the Ashes; telling the selectors he was carrying a slight leg injury and, to be on the safe side, they ought to pick a younger and fitter man.

1. :eng: :bat: Mike Brearley :c:
2. :wi: :bat: Adrian Barath
3. :ind: :bat: Subramaniam Badrinath
4. :aus: :bat: Clem Hill
5. :eng: :bat: Johnny Tyldesley
6. :pak: :ar: Imran Khan
7. :saf: :wk: Mark Boucher
8. :eng: :ar: Gareth Batty
9. :eng: :bwl: Johnnie Clay
10. :eng: :bwl: Derek Shackleton
11. :ind: :bwl: Prasidh Krishna

(98/100)

That's my team complete then; Imran really saved the balance of the side. There's a few picks I would change in hindsight but in general I'm most proud of how many players in the 11 actually were around world class in test cricket at their specialization (Brearley, Hill, Tyldesley, Imran and Boucher) and not just domestic giants

Gladstone Small for 16 points to wrap up my team and my bowling attack.

Jack Cheetham will captain my side here.

1. :aus: Waugh :bat:
2. :eng: Roy :bat:
3. :aus: Darling :bat:
4. :eng: Lamb :bat:
5. :sri: Ranatunga :bat:
6. :saf:Cheetham :bat: :c:
7. :saf: Richardson :wk:
8. :ind: Agarkar :ar:
10. :eng: Small :bwl:
10. :ind: L Sivaramakrishnan :bwl:
11. :aus: Bracken :bwl:

Given that @Yash. hasn't made a pick for nearly three weeks, I'm going to give him three Caretaker Picks to round out his team.

This is the situation for his team at present:
  1. :eng: :bat: Alastair Cook (23)
  2. :ind: :bat: Aakash Chopra (3)
  3. :saf: :bat: Peter Kirsten (11)
  4. ???
  5. :ind: :ar: Ajay Sharma (6)
  6. :ind: :wkb: Saba Karim (0)
  7. :eng: :ar: George Pope (0)
  8. :saf: :bwl: Hardus Viljoen (0)
  9. :ind: :bwl: Anil Kumble (21)
  10. ???
  11. ???
36 points remaining
9th round: :wi: :ar: Marlon Samuels (12)
1735567874205.png

3,917 runs @ 32.64 (7 centuries, best 260) and 41 wickets @ 59.63 (best 4/13) in 71 Test matches
7,295 runs @ 36.65 (14 centuries, best 260) and 71 wickets @ 55.05 (1 5WI, best 5/87) in 122 first-class matches

Marlon Samuels was capable of greatness on his day, but was also capable of dazzling mediocrity. Given that some of his best days came when his team was under most pressure, I still think that makes him a worthwhile pick even if he was a bit of a shit bloke.

10th round: :sri: :bwl: Dilshan Madushanka (0)
1735569778039.png

0 wickets in 1 Test match
35 wickets @ 24.85 (1 5WI, best 6/33) in 11 first-class matches

A giant in the most recent World Cup, Dilshan Madushanka is an excellent left-arm fast bowler whose one Test cap so far didn't quite live up to expectations. There's no way that'll last, so this is clearly the perfect time to pick him up as a 0-point player.

11th round: :wi: :bwl: Wes Hall (24)
1735568465051.png

192 wickets @ 26.38 (9 5WI, best 7/69) in 48 Test matches
546 wickets @ 26.14 (19 5WI, best 7/51) in 170 first-class matches

The first great West Indian fast bowler, Wes Hall remains an all-time great who consistently found himself at the centre of some of West Indies cricket's most famous moments. He was also the exponent of one of the great bowling actions.

If @Yash. wants to change any of these picks then that's absolutely not a problem, but otherwise the draft will conclude once @Paranoid Kendroid and @Supreme General have made their picks and then we'll move onto the post-draft tournament!

For my last pick (and supposedly the last one of the draft) I will take a player who I’ve always been a big fan of and who I think was very harshly treated by England fans during his career at times. That is the one and only Dawid Malan for 7 points leaving my team looking like:

1. :ar: :eng: WG Grace (12)
2. :bat: :nz: Brendon McCullum :c: (18)
3. :bat: :saf: HD Ackerman (0)
4. :bat: :eng: Dawid Malan (7)
5. :bat: :saf: Heinrich Klaasen (0)
6. :ar: :eng: Young Jack Hearne (8)
7. :ar: :wi: Andre Russell (0)
8. :wk: :eng: Sarah Taylor (0)
9. :bwl: :wi: Michael Holding (27)
10. :bwl: :aus: Shaun Tait (0)
11. :bwl: :sri: Muttiah Muralitharan (28)

Total: 100 points

01. :wi: :bat: Kraigg Brathwaite (13)
02. :eng: :wkb: Dodger Whysall (9)
03. :pak: :bat: Shan Masood (9)
04. :eng: :bat: James Taylor (6)
05. :aus: :bat: Ian Craig (0)
06. :aus: :wk: Adam Gilchrist (27)
07. :nzf: :ar::up: Ian Cromb (0)
08. :ind: :ar::down: Karn Sharma (0)
09. :saf: :bwl::up: Dale Steyn (28)
10. :eng: :bwl::down: Pat Pocock (6)
11. :saf: :bwl::up: Lonwabo Tsotsobe (1)

Jimmy Anderson held on under real pressure, and secured a valuable draw for Welwyn's XI.

@Aislabie - 12 points (5 + 3 + 4)
@Welwyn - 9 points (3 + 3 + 3)

Can I have till tonight to post the lineup?
