Just started a Full English domestic season with Derbyshire on c2k4. i'm playing on the PS2 format and on hard difficulty, there will be no screenshots but i will be typing up the scorecards after each session. i've had to create a few of the players as the squad is three years out of date.

Match 1 - Derbyshire vs Gloucestershire - County Championship D2

Team:
M Di Venuto (c)
B France
C Taylor
P Borrington
M North
Hassan Adnan
J Pipe (wk)
J Needham
T Lungley
G Wagg
K Dean

Derbyshire won the toss and elected to field on a green wicket, and the opening pair of Dean and Wagg utilised the new ball to great effect, hitting good lines and lengths which frustrated the batsmen. Taylor hogged the majority of the strike, and this caused his opening partner Weston to lose concentration, and with the score on 29, he played down the wrong line of an outswinger from Wagg and was caught behind. Hancock then joined Taylor at the crease and found life difficult against the Derbyshire seamers, playing and missing on numerous occasions. When he did finally connect with one, it was an outside edge of the bowling of Wagg which prompted a diving catch for Chris Taylor in the gully, this made the Gloucs score 38/2. Ian Harvey and Taylor then went about seeing off the Derbyshire seamers, and then Harvey took 8 off Lungley's first over. The off-spinner Needham was bought into the attack after 15 overs, which was a surprising move for saying the ball was still seaming around, but even though he didnt take a wicket, his accurate bowling put pressure on the batsmen, and they began to take unnecessary risks which resulted in three runouts. After Needham had bowled 4 overs, Wagg came on for one last burst before lunch, but with the lack of swing available, Mark Alleyne stroked a couple of boundaries in the final over before lunch to move the score onto 79/5 after 27 overs. The afternoon session will require a period of consolidation by Rhodes and Alleyne if Gloucestershire are to pick up any batting bonus points

It is interesting to see a Cricket 2004 story, but to make it better you should include some screenshots of your game to show us what happened. Good start though.

Well I would say it is almost impossible for him to take screenshots so we will have to go by his scorecards and explanations. Good start for Derbyshire.

Ah sorry, never realised it was on PS2. Maybe he could get some pictures from Cricinfo though.

Afternoon Session report

Well what a session we've had here at the County Ground. After a productive morning session Derbyshire were hoping that they could take the 5 remaining wickets in the Gloucestershire innings fairly quickly, and they set about it in good fashion. Wagg opened the bowling after lunch and with his 5th ball he produced an absolute beauty which caught the outside edge of Alleyne's bat, and France took the catch at 2nd slip. This made the score 85/6, and out came Russell. Dean took the 2nd over, and was still unable to claim his first wicket of the season, but then it was Wagg's turn again. With almost a carbon copy of the delivery that sent back Alleyne, the left-handed Russell edged the ball to France at 2nd slip, again, and suddenly Gloucs were 87/7. Lungley replaced Dean as it was clear that swing was doing the trick on this pitch and in these conditions, and with his third ball he produced a delivery that pitched and straightened at Rhodes, and it hit him dead in front, and up went the umpires finger, 92/8. Then, in his next over, Lungley bowled Ball with a perfect leg-stump yorker, 93/8. Smith then flashed at one and edged it over the slips for 4. At the end of the 37th over the score was 99/9, and it took Wagg one ball to find the edge of Lewis' bat and the catch was taken by Taylor in the gully. 99 all out (37.1 overs)

Derbyshire's openers arrived at the crease knowing that batting would not be easy on this wicket, particularly against Jon Lewis, who's style of bowling is tailor made for these conditions. Lewis and Smith began tremendously, bowling fantastic areas, and troubling both Di Venuto and France, and it was Di Venuto who was first to be dismissed, flashing at a short and wide one from Smith, and Hancock snaffled it at third slip, 7/1. Then, the very next over, France pushed at one from Lewis and edged it to Weston at second slip, 7/2. Borrington managed to survive the rest of the over and get down to the other end, but his innings was ended prematurely when the umpire adjudged him LBW to a ball that hit him above the knee roll after he had got a big stride in, 8/3. Then Lewis started to have some fun, he bowled Taylor with a beauty, and then two balls later, North was trapped plumb in front. Pipe suffered the same fate off the very next ball, and this made the score 8/6. Ball then replaced Smith, and Needham saw this as the opportunity to score some runs as the ball wouldnt be turning a great deal, and he hit two boundaries off Ball's first over, but in the last over before tea he became Lewis' 5th victim when he was squared up by an outswinger and Weston took the catch at slip. Lungley survived the remaining three balls and Derbyshire went into tea on 22/7 after 15 overs, still trailing by 77 runs

Evening Session report

After their capitulation in the afternoon session, Derbyshire would have hoped for Adnan and Lungley to get somewhere near Gloucestershire's first innings total of 99, but they knew it would be a daunting task. Ian Harvey took the first over after tea, and with his very first ball, knocked back Adnan's off-stump, which would not have pleased coach Dave Houghton after he had laid down what he expected out of the session just before the resumption of play. Lungley and Wagg then went about seeing off what little shine was left on the ball, and thus reducing the effectiveness of Jon Lewis. This however, proved to be in vain, as Lewis took no time at all in mopping up the Derbyshire tail, claiming both Wagg and Lungley LBW, and the Derbyshire score at the end of the first innings was 23 all out (18.3 overs)

With a first innings lead of 76, and the best part of three days remaining in the match, Gloucestershire knew that all they had to do was bat sensibly and they would put the game out of reach of Derbyshire. Kevin Dean bowled a superb opening over, only conceding a single run, which came via the edge of Taylor's bat. Wagg then bowled an even better opening over, taking two wickets off his first two balls, Taylor caught in the gully by Taylor for 1, and Hancock caught by Pipe for 0, and after 2 overs the score was 1/2. Weston and Harvey then knuckled down and blocked a few overs, until Weston was undone by an off cutter by Dean, knocking out his off-stump when he was on 3. The innings then hit a flat period, with Harvey and Rhodes not looking like they were bothered about scoring runs, and the pressure was increasingly building. This pressure resulted in Rhodes running himself out going for an impossible third, and the score was now 23/4. Windows then got a pearler from Wagg and France easily took the catch at slip, and in the penultimate over of the day, Harvey flashed at a wide one from Wagg, mis-timed it, and Taylor dived to his right and took the catch in the gully. Alleyne and Russell saw off the final over from France and Gloucestershire ended the day on 36/6 after 20 overs

Day 2 - Morning Session report

Gloucestershire began the day 112 runs ahead, and with Alleyne and Russell at the crease, they would have hoped to gain a lead of at least 200 which would be substantial on this dodgy wicket. Lungley began with a maiden, as did Wagg, then Di Venuto bought France into the attack, and immediately he got the breakthrough, forcing Russell to feather one through to Taylor at slip, 39/7. France then lost his line & length so offspinner Needham replaced him in the attack. Due to there not being much turn, the inexperienced spinner was going to have to use all of his variations to try and claim a wicket. The next wicket to fall was somewhat farcical, Alleyne nudged one round to leg gully off Needham, and Ball called for the run, needless to say Pipe had no hesitation in whipping the bails off and dismissing him, 44/8. Needham then mixed up his pace brilliantly to claim the last two wickets, Lewis and Smith, both caught at silly point by Borrington 46 all out (31.2 overs)

This left Derbyshire needing 123 off the best part of 3 days, and it would be criminal for them to throw this opportunity away. Di Venuto had a shaky start, edging Lewis past the keeper for 4 off just his second delivery. Smith took the 2nd over and with his very first ball had France caught behind by Russell. Taylor only lasted 2 balls before he was bowled round his legs, and suddenly Derbyshire were 10/2. Di Venuto and Borrington then decided that the best way to combat the moving ball was to just play sensibly and pick up ones and twos. This worked for a few overs until Smith yorked Di Venuto for 13, and Derbyshire were now 23/3. Borrington and North picked up where he and Di Venuto had left off, and saw them into lunch without the loss of any further wickets, and at lunch Derbyshire were 41/3 off 13 overs

Day 2 - Afternoon Session report

Borrington & North strode out to the crease after lunch with their team still needing 82 runs for victory, but the small matter of 7 wickets in hand would have filled them with confidence. However, Borrington added only 5 to his score before he was bowled by an off cutter frm Harvey, and two balls later Adnan was out, trapped in front, and the score was now 54/5. Pipe survived two early edges and then knuckled down, putting on a partnership of 49 with North before he was dubiously given out lbw to one that may have been going over the top. It was then left to Needham and North to finish the job off, and North reached his fifty when he hit Smith for four to win the game for Derbyshire, he finished 53*, and Needham 8*, and Derbyshire were home by 4 wickets and with 2 1/2 days to spare

Errr...You're not very good at batting on this game are you? Neither am I. I find the game quite impossible.
