A nerveless unbeaten 76* by youngster Nasser Hussain and some late hitting by allrounder Phil Newport saw the England XI to a 4 wicket win with just 2 balls to spare.
Hussain paced his innings superbly and he and Newport were only forced to start Hitting Out when they need 5 off the final over of the day.
At 76/4 chasing 209 the visitors appeared in trouble before Alec Stewart joined Hussain to add 75 runs for the 5th wicket and get their team back on track.
Offspinner Thomas Kentish kept the pressure on for the home side with 3-67, finishing the match with 6 wickets but it wasn't enough to prevent defeat.
