Guyana v England XI - 4 day match - at Bourda, Georgetown, Guyana - 1989/90 - Match Preview

Pitch:
91 - The pitch is hard and dark coloured, perhaps an indication the quickies will be helped early in the match.
The fast paced nature of the pitch will also encourage strokemaking and there is every chance that this will be an entertaining match.
By Day 3 some of the life should be gone from the pitch and late in the match the bounce may become a problem.

Weather: Hot and Sunny all 4 days.

Injuries: M.A.Atherton - Back Strain (miss 1 match), N.Hussain - Back Trouble (miss 1 match)

The England XI face a fairly strong looking Guyana side at Bourda, Georgetown, Guyana in a 4 day match between the 1st and 2nd Tests.
Guyana look stronger in batting than bowling and with 3 offspinners expected to do the bulk of the bowling their attack lacks a bit of variety.
We can probably expect some high scores here, but if England bowl well they might post a win.

Guyana v England XI - 4 day match - at Bourda, Georgetown, Guyana - 1989/90 - Guyana 2nd Innings

England XI won by 118 runs

Man of the Match:
R.J.Bailey

Some more good bowling by first innings destoyers Angus Fraser and Derek Pringle wrapped up an easy 118 run for the England XI and probably sealed both a 2nd Test birth.
Openers Clayton Lamber and Sudesh Dhaniram showed fight with half centuries before the steady loss of wickets to the two seamers saw them all out for 213.
Pringle finished the match with 9 wickets but Rob Bailey was named Man of the Match for his fine match double with 116 and 56* which might get him a go in the 2nd Test XI ahead of Nasser Hussain who is struggling a bit now after a decent start.
