1st Test @ Windsor Park Dominica

Day 2

Well, its Day 2 of this 1st Test at Windsor Park in Dominica which is hosting it's only second Test. Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bowl first and did a pretty decent job by dismissing the West Indies team for 161 runs. Check out below for Highlights Of Day 1.

Highlights Of Day 1 & Day 2 - Lunch

Well, the playing conditions today does not suggest good batting conditions and it means we could have another wicket fest day today. We have already seen 15 wickets falling yesterday and could well be for same kind of day.

playingconditions.jpg

After Lunch Session, West Indies started the innings with an aim to rebuild. 3 wonderful boundaries by Shiv Chanderpaul and Simmons showed the sign of positive attitude. Lot was not there before Shiv Chanderpaul edged a swinging delivery to second slip and West Indies lost their 4th wicket.

Lendl Simmons was looking in great form which he left in First innings & played some marvelous shots. He was looking to stay on crease with Marlon Samuels for long period when 2 Shocking decisions came West Indies way.

First it was Simmons who was judged LBW but Hawk Eye confirmed the ball was not even close to leg stump. The new man Dwayne Bravo who on his second delivery was judged caught behind and snicko and hot spot confirmed that there was no bat involved. With no UDRS this series the West Indies seemed to struggle from 94/4 they were 94/6.

Marlon Samuels and West Indies skipper Darren Sammy with their cautious approach carried the West Indies innings and added 35 runs before end of Session 2 of Day 2. Samuels and Sammy have batted beautifully so far and have certainly shifted the momentum back to West Indies. West Indies played positive cricket which is good to see as they scored 101 runs in this session with the loss of 3 wickets. 166 runs lead looks good at this moment and Pakistan will start to worry once the lead crosses 200. They would like to end West Indies innings as soon as possible after tea

Well cloud covers the ground and it seems it could rain in the possible last session. Stay tuned for more updates.... :p

Well, West Indies batsman Samuels and Sammy came back after small interval of Tea session under cloudy conditions, where they had a small target of getting West Indies lead past 200 runs. Sammy and Samuels started to score quickly and hit few good boundaries. Running between the wickets was better and they gathered some quick singles.

Samuels soon reached an important 50, a 50 which might have just given West Indies a slight advantage in terms of the situation of the match. He scored 50 of 91 deliveries hitting 8 boundaries. This innings was crucial from West Indies point of view.

You could say lapse of concentration did it as Samuels after getting his 50 casually tried defending the ball and only managed to get caught. His innings ended on 51 runs of 95 deliveries hitting 8 boundaries at a strike rate of 53.66

Captain Darren Sammy who was highly criticized before this match continued taking few quick 2's and 1's. He hit 2 consecutive boundaries of Riaz Afridi's over but soon threw his wicket. He was clean bowled the same over a delivery later and ended his captains crucial 39 runs innings. He insured that West Indies now have a minimum lead of 200 runs which could mean Pakistan would have to get the best score of this test match on a pitch that is highly favoring the batsman. Darren Sammy scored 39 runs of 70 deliveries hitting 5 boundaries and scored at a strike rate of 55.71.

Devndra Bishoo and Kemar Roach tried defending and scoring a single here and there, but the shot from Devndra Bishoo(Present In Highlight) really was wonderful to watch.

West Indies IInd Innings soon ended with Bishoo done by a slow delivery from Riaz Afridi & Kemar Roach trying to play extravagant shot for boundary. West Indies were all out on 174 which was better then their 1st Innings score as well as Pakistan's Ist Innings score.

Pakistan need 211 runs to win with 3 days and 1 hour of play remaining on 2nd Day, their patience will be tested surely. This pitch looks crappy and if they could hold their nerves and bat patiently they could well win this match given the amount of time left.

Pakistan openers Taufiq Umar and Imran Farhat started nervously with play and misses, few boundaries going off the edged, but what could possibly be criticized is Darren Sammy's captaincy. Darren Sammy opened his bowling department with Kemar Roach and Devendra Bishoo. Pakistan batsman who are known to handle spin well, did exactly that. Sammy then changed Bishoo's bowling to Dwayne Bravo which backfired completely. Dwayne Bravo gave 13 runs in his 2 overs and was not quite effective. Kemar Roach on one end bowled tightly and controlled the flow runs and others did not. Pakistani openers swiftly managed to reach 30 runs of 10 overs with one over remaining. Darren Sammy gave Jerome Taylor the ball who have already looked out of form and clueless in first innings, gave 12 runs of the over where Taufiq Umar hit him for a monstrous SIX!!! Pakistan ended Day 2 on 42 for 0 and have edged themselves ahead of West Indies in last 11 overs.

West Indies will need to consistently strike straight away tomorrow. The first session of Day 3 will be crucial for both sides, as if Pakistan will lose wickets in heap tomorrow they will be on back foot and if West Indies let Pakistan score freely then they will find themselves on back foot

Another batting collapse by WI. Steady start by Pakistan. Looking at how pitch has performed till now, its hard to tell the outcome of the match. One thing is sure, the match won't be a draw.

So its was the day where the result will be out, either its going to be Pakistan who are ahead at this stage winning the match or it will be West Indies the home side who have dominated so far the match.

Pakistan needed 170 runs to win and in the first session they successfully completed the first hurdle. They lost only 3 wickets and scored 85 runs. Taufiq Umar and Imran Farhat batted beautifully and insured that Pakistan wont lose this match.

Pakistan lost 1st Wicket on 68 and then build a decent 15 runs partnership before Umar Akmal was trapped LBW by Kemar Roach. Younis Khan and Imran Farhan batted quite swiftly and took Pakistan's score to 118 before Imran Farhat's much needed innings came to end. West Indies skipper Darren Sammy took his wicket. Pakistan ended on 127 for 3 at lunch on Day 3. Pakistan needed 85 runs to win OR West Indies needed 7 wickets to win.

Pakistan although lost 2 wickets after lunch but enough damage was done and they lost 5th wicket on 198 runs. Poor Captaincy from Darren Sammy had cost West Indies had lost the match which they dominated through out and with injuries and politics around they need to rebuild well for the next test match.

Good batting by Pakistan in the 4th innings. That wasn't a shocker given the fact they were 127/3 at one stage.

West Indies have an uphill task ahead of them. They need to sort all he issues regarding injuries and politics relating to Gayle. He is the man they need to give quick starts in situations and conditions as tricky as this. He would have made the differecnce. Saying this the West Indies bowlers were pathetic

Yes, if Gayle come back, it can do a world of good to WI line-up. Taylor too doesn't look in form. Bring in Edwards I say to add more teeth to the attack.
