Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Can anybody tell me whats the advantage ?? when it comes to home and away ?? Two teams drawn in both home and away and then autometically one team get to semifinal ?? I am really confused with this.

Away goals decide then, as in if the scores are tied on aggregate then the team that has scored more goals away from home goes through. Otherwise extra time (during which away goals rule also applies) and then penalties.

If your score a goal in the 1st Leg away from home you are at a massive advantage. Most teams in the Champions League are expected to win at home and hence the advantage to the better sides.

Wow, what a game! Matches like that are the reason that football is the best sport in the world. Not just one away goal, but three! Shame we let them get one back right at the end, but I'm sure the lads would've snapped your arm off if you'd offered 3-2 before the game, hell, after three minutes!

Now, the trick is to keep them quiet for the first twenty back at Old Trafford. Do that, and we should win - also, it's a very rare occasion when Utd don't score at least one at Old Trafford.

Job well and truly done!

The only reason Milan are still in the tie is because of our mistakes.

Rooney saying "Some people weren't doing their jobs right" is over stepping the mark. You don't criticise your own players in public. The only player he reacts to on the pitch is Nani, even when others make mistakes. No wonder Nani suffers from confidence problems, as when ever he does something wrong, Rooney turns round and has a go at him. I'm hoping there isn't a rift between Rooney and Nani, otherwise Nani will be gone in the summer.

One more thing. Why is Andy Gray so anti-united? And why do Skysports have Mr dour and Mr Boring as pundits for Champions league games (Guilit and Pleb).

In fairness, Milan should've been out of sight before our first goal. But that's what this Utd team is like - mentally tough and very, very hard to beat, whether home or away, domestically or in Europe.

If Valencia had started instead of Nani today, I am sure we could have come with 4-5 away goals. Nani was given a lot of the ball, but his final ball was always very poor sometimes over Rooney or sometimes to the Keeper. Valencia brilliant with his crossing and his first cross led the Rooney's first goal. Looks like Rooney loves to play with Valencia.

Well our defence and passing in the our own half was very sloppy. They could have been 3-0 or 4-0 half before Scholes scored. Ronaldinho looked really good with his one touch skill passes but Pato and Huntelaar were poor. And Pirlo was kept quiet by Park.

Anyways a great win, after we are able to beat Milan at the San Siro and now time to seal the job at Old Trafford. Nice to see Madrid lose to Lyon.

Thank God we didnt sign Huntelaar, he is such nuisance was very very poor today.

Pato wasn't poor, gave Evra some problems on our left and stopped Evra from bombing forward to support our attacks.

Antonini going off injured and 38 year old Favalli coming on at left back played in our favour.

Some very amateurish defending could have cost us but we were clinical, unlike Milan.

There's a rumour that AC Milan want to tempt us with Huntelaar to sign Vidic. We should tell them exactly where to go! Agreed about Valencia, he seemed to change the game.

Give me Rooney above someone like Ronaldhino anytime: Rooney is a match winner, someone who can take a game by the balls and give 'em a good shake. Ronaldhino just has good flicks and fancy passes. Don't get me wrong , he is obviously a brilliant footballer but Rooney is a killer in front of goal. Well played that man!

Amen to that - Rooney works his butt off for the team - I'd have him over Ronaldinho any day.

Campbell's performance today will be interesting. If he does well in big games like these, i think he will be serious reckoning for England's world cup squad given the lack of quality depth in defense.

Ronaldinho during his hay days was probably the best ever.

Best buck toothed diver, I agree.

Best ever footballer? Such a ridiculous statement, I can't even be bothered to put forward and argument.

I'm not sure why Vidic would want to go to Milan. The Italian league is terrible. And I don't want Huntelaar at United. I'd rather Andrew Cole came out of retirement.

Haha:laugh That was the weirdest thing i have ever seen in football. Poor Fabianski.
