Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Yea like the guy that reffed the Olympiakos vs Bordeaux match yesterday :sarcasm

Clearly no one gets everything right. This ref (Milan v Chelsea) has a history of giving stupid decisions and missing clear fouls. UEFA and FIFA are responsible for picking refs and they (as usual) are crap at it.

Like you said clearly no one gets everything right.

No midfield for Chelsea. Ballack and Lampard were unheard of for the entire match. Mikel was better then both of thm but still nothing special, Ivanovic and Malouda played really well and the forwards didn't do much.

Most of the Inter team was brilliant, Milito and Eto didn't do much but the midfield and the back 4 were brilliant. Lucio and Samuel were great, nobody was even getting by Lucio, Zaneti was usual self just amazing and Cambiasso played a great game.

Good game that one. Shame to see Cech get injured, hopefully it's not a serious ligament tear in his knee, that'd definitely end his season. As for the game itself, Lucio put in a fine performance, was truely excellent at the back for Inter, agree with Dare regarding Cambiasso's performance too, hugely under-rated player.

Have to give props to Gareth Southgate too, thought he did an excellent job on commentary. He's intelligent, speaks well and clearly knows the game. Would be happy to hear him on commentary again.

Yea he was good.

I thought Tydlsey and himself bounced off each other well. Far better than Pleat etc. Would be quite happy to have this as the regular pairing for big matches on ITV.

Southgate: "Brings goosebumps to a center half to see the crowd stand up and applaud you"

What, like the Germans in '96? :laugh

Football is a funny game, isn't it? After 25 minutes of total dominance, CSKA had to concede a goal. I knew that.
Gonzalez was impressive on his debut. I was just watching Krasić's interview that he wants to join Barcelona or Man Utd. Later when he was asked about it at a press conference, he answered he does not want to talk about it. Well you can see his arrogance in his game. His attitude is affecting his game. How awesome was he in UEFA cup 2005!
Why would you rate yourself so high, huh. Let other do that.

Superb display of passing & counter-attacking football from the gunners. Arshavin is so bloody skillful haha.

Another solid game for Sol Campbell as well. Hopefully Capello is taking notice.

Liverpool in danger of missing the next CL?

I really hope we don't :\

Mate, you could end up missing the next Europa League!

Freaking away goal rule can so harsh at times.

Indeed - good thing we have a hatful of them against AC Milan. They'll come at us hard tomorrow, we musn't concede in the first twenty. Still, Rooney's fit again, so we should score a couple ourselves.

Campbell is an experienced, dependable defender. OK, he might be getting on a bit, but his reading of the game will never leave him; he should definitely go to the World Cup. He also has a habit of scoring in International tournaments as well, only for the referee to rule them out for something trivial - maybe this time if he goes, he'll get a legitimate one.

Word out sir. Big Sol has to go to the WC, he certainly isn't playing since his return to Arsenal like he is 35. Eriksson took Martin Keown to the 2002 WC at age 36 if my memory if right, so Capello can & should do the same with Campbell this time.

Milan missing Pato i guess. Surprised they didn't bring Mancini in their squad to OT, his pace could have been useful.
