Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Good to see a champions league final without a English team. With all the odds they had of getting one or 2 teams to the final 4 it is nice to see some "lesser" or other teams get in. From the looks of it Barca look like the favorites to win it but it will be interesting to see how Inter play Messi and what Mourinho has in store for him.

Lloris was amazing once again. He isn't particularly tall or big but is always in command when crosses/corners are put into the box.

I think he'll take over from Casillas one day as the best GK in the world.

Bayern are through :happy

Yes and they knocked Juventus out in the process.

Yeh, we had lots of problem and still going in the same phase. What about Madrid ?? Full of stars and still couldn't do anything :laugh

Dear oh dear: how can United give this one away? Brilliant goal by Robben but such a misbalance is forced on the match with that kind of decision by the ref. But the goal Bayern scored at the end of the first half proved to be a new lease of life.

TWO Sentences sums up that game.

RAFAEL COST US. GERMANS HAD NO CHANCE WITHOUT THE SENDING OFF.

Hmm i dunno man. Yea Rafeal error affected United, but you got to give credit to Bayern for not giving up i'd say. Overall although it pains me to say, Bayern deserve to go through to the semi's.

I am predicting a Inter vs Bayern final as well.

Nah man, no way Inter can win at Camp Nou. Barca will destroy them.

Barca will go on and win it after a Messi masterclass against Bayern in Madrid.

Rafael had Ribery in his pocket for the entire first half. He had a superb game but had a Beckham-esque moment of petulance when he kicked out at Van Bommel who, like Simeone in the Beckham incident, should've been penalised before Rafael did what he did, as he fouled Rafael first. However, that was an unfortunate moment of inexperience, and in the 2nd half, grabbing hold of Ribery was daft. But having said all that, if he hadn't done such a great job on Ribery in the first half, the game might have changed even earlier. Still, a booking for that tussle was a little harsh in my view, but you just cannot grab onto a player, not in Europe. He might have got away with that in the Premiership, but I don't have any real complaints about the second yellow.

Yes - that goal was the real killer. If that goal didn't go in, Bayern wouldn't have got their second wind.

I said that Rooney shouldn't be risked and he was - chances are, he'll miss more games now! A very poor decision from Sir Alex - at the beginning of the evening, he said there was 'no risk' and then at the end, he said 'we took the risk'. I thought there was no risk, Sir Alex? :facepalm

And one other thing, where the hell was the marking on Robben? We used to pull that trick at the corner all the time with Scholes, we should've been alive to it! It was very painful to watch him celebrate, especially as he's an ex Chelski player (who was supposed to come to us originally, before the deal was scuppered at the last moment).

Never mind - Bayern won't win it - Barca will. Sure, the Cup hasn't been retained for twenty years, but neither have we seen a player like Messi for twenty years either. I hope he doesn't click for Argentina, because if he does, they could well win the World Cup, and they're one of my least favourite teams to win it.

Argentina are looking extremely unlikely to win the WC, so I wouldn't be too worried just yet.

As i mentioned before in this thread. If Inter follow the blueprint of what United did to Barca in the 2007/08 semis - they have a very good chance of beating Barca.

Maicon vs Messi could be the key battle over those two legs one feels.

Very Disappointed at the game. United were outstanding in the first half, but I think the Olic (IF I spelled It right) goal was the moment Bayern actually started believing in themselves. We never really got going in the 2nd Half, and even though Bayern didnt really outplay us or anything, they still went through unfortunately.

People are talking about Milan-Barcelona Final, but arent they meeting in the semis?
If they are I am hoping for a Milan Win. :upray

At 3-0 I though the game well over but as it has happened this season we conceded within 5 minutes after we scored and that Olic goal was the key and then the Rafael sent off. We missed some chances like the Rafael solo effort or Nani's second half chance. But again we werent able to play same football which we played in the first half in the second.

I dont know why Rooney risk was taken by Fergie. He got a knock on his ankle and now he will miss the Blackburn game. Instead I would have started with Berba and brought Rooney later in the game.

Anyways this season hasnt been good but hoping England wins the World Cup and post world cup we have a good season. Some lessons to be learnt and some tweaking in squad need to be done.

Who said Messi will be playing on the wings, the same thing happen last year before the final. Evra will keep Messi quiet but Guardiola surprised by playing in center.
