Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Less than 2 hours to go for the big match. Can't wait for it. :D

It must be noted though that under Pep Guardiola, Barcelona have never won an away leg in the knockout stages. They played 6, drawn 5 and lost 1. They always get the job done at the Nou Camp.

Excellent Spurs, its actually sad to see a wicked City preventing them from a CL spot this season.

And Chelsea too. :p

But seriously though, I can imagine Mancini being very negative in CL matches next season if do they ended up it in. Hardly inspiring.

Just observed this pattern :

2004 - Porto ; 2005 - 2nd Round (Lost to Inter)
2005 - Liverpool ; 2006 - 2nd Round (Lost to Benfica)
2006 - Barcelona ; 2007 - 2nd Round (Lost to Liverpool)
2007 - AC Milan ; 2008 - 2nd Round (Lost to Arsenal)

2008 - Man United ; 2009 - Runners Up (Lost to Barcelona)
2009 - Barcelona ; 2010 - Semis (Lost to Inter)
2010 - Inter ; 2011 - ??

According to this pattern , they should make it to the quarters :p
And , are Madrid finally gonna break their 6 year jinx at not being able to get past that 2nd Round Barrier ?? :p

Barcelona already a goal ahead. Arsenal clearly need to dirty their hands if they want to push Barcelona.

Wow! I have to say that Arsenal played brilliantly and I think deservedly won the game. Their defence was shaky and vulnerable in the first half but they were more solid in the second as I hardly remember Barcelona having any shots until the last 5 minutes or so. Jack Wilshere was absolutely immense and superb throughout the game it has to be said.

As for Barcelona, well, they were completely put out of stride and rattled in the second half as they did not have much joy going forward as they did in the first half. And it certainly wasn't Messi's night when he missed a couple of good chances in the first half and a little in the second too.

Anyway, this sets up an interesting second leg at the Nou Camp. Barcelona at least have the crucial away goal and with that, I think they can still turn the tie around. Nonetheless, congrats to Arsenal for their win.

EDIT: Oh, Barcelona's away record in the knockout stages under Pep Guardiola now reads P 7 W 0 D 5 L 2.
