Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Well done, Gunners. I'm so bored with everyone going on about Barcelona as though they're some unbeatable super team - even though they did actually get beaten by Inter Milan last season in the final. It's nice to see someone put one over on them, especially an English team - but they have that away goal. It's going to be tough, but I think Arsenal can do it.

2-1 is a fantastic result away from home. Just that they were leading 1-0 which would have been an even better result. Yes they haven't had a good record away from home in the UCL knockout stages, but thats irrelevant given their lethal form at home.

I don't see Arsenal capable of holding Barca at the Nou Camp.

To be fair to Barca, they've earned that. I don't think we'll ever see a team as good as Barcelona in our lifetime.

When Messi missed that chip I was in shock. Barca lacked the finish, really were running rings around Arsenal for a long period of the game. Xavi was astonishing as always. But they didn't take their chances, and some great counter attacking from Arsenal, great character to come back after being on backfoot for so much of the game. Wilshere was outstanding. To give that good a performance, at such a young age, against Barcelona is something special.

I thought Barca's players looked shot. The effects of the World Cup and the season so far seems to be taking its toll on their first XI. Interestingly, each of their four defeats this season have occured without captain Puyol in the side.

The Puyol factor is actually valid. I've seen Pique struggle even for Spain when Puyol has been absent.

Indeed & i mentioned this before. This problem has been noticeable for club & country since that friendly defeat vs Argentina.

Personally think the gooners are jumping the gun a bit, Barca lost this game off their own backs, they should have been 2-3 up at half time.
Arsenal improved in the second half but not to the point where they looked at a similar level to barca, arsenal got lucky and thats the way it goes sometimes, but the reality is at the nou camp barca will not make the same mistake.

I quite agree, but I don't think arsenal are going to be any push overs this time around.
I still think barca will go through, but it will definitely not be easy for them this time around. At least I hope it wont:p

Maybe Pique's relationship with Shakira is affecting him. Just a thought though.

Wouldn't it affect you? :D
