Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Barcelona were amazing. Really great to watch. Xavi and Iniesta - just wow!

Barca were awesome, but if Bendtner had scored that last one on one, or maybe if Van Persie hadn't been given one of the most ridiculous red cards I've ever seen, it might have counted for nothing and it would've been so sweet for a club from little old England to shut the Spanish up!

Anyone up for Milan tonight ? They have got past two severe obstacles in Napoli & Juve to lead the charge for the Serie A title . So , i wouldn't be surprised if they got past a 3rd successive obstacle at White Hart Lane . They seem to be the last Italian club alive in Europe assuming Inter crash out at Alliance Arena a week later .

Anyone looked at how they played after van Persie red card? 9-men defense. Didn't they know they need a goal to survive?

Even with 11 men, Arsenal did not even threaten one bit. But that's because Barcelona did not let them too with their constant intense pressing.

Arsene Wenger playing Fabregas was a mistake considering that he is not even 100% fit and did not influence the game.

Napoli were poor in the game against Milan and Juventus are not as good as they were, certainly not this season. Spurs will be a different proposition for Milan.

As ridiculous as the RVP sending off was, I think Arsenal should be ashamed of themselves if they expect to qualify with zero shots on target. I think Pep was right in saying that Arsenal should look more into why they were not able to string together more than 3 passes at a time.

Looking forward tonight's game between Valencia and Schalke. Can't really decide on who I want through, Valencia cuz they are a La Liga side and I want more representation in the QFs, but Schalke have my favourite player of all time, Raul - who is now the leading goalscorer in all European club competition. I want him to build on that lead!!

Another Italian club bites the dust. Spurs played and defended well throughout the game and restricted Milan to only 2-3 clear cut chances despite Milan dominating for most of the game. Well done to Spurs nonetheless.

Yeh great defending. Sandro and Modric were fantastic, Sandro especially. Milan slightly disappointing - Robinho, Pato and Boateng in particular. Ibra's link up play was good but they were lacking someone to take advantage of it.

Ibrahimovic playing through the middle can become a little predictable at times and whenever he has played against English clubs, they have dealt with him quite easily.

And on the other tie, I'm kinda disappointed with Valencia going out but oh well...

Cracking game at the Allianz Arena. The result could have easily gone Bayern's way but they didn't take their chances. And I have to say, Inter are so the opposite now compared to last season. Back then, they were defensively well drilled by Mourinho but now, they are all over the place at times.

Nonetheless, at least there is still one Italian club surviving in the Champions League.

The defences of both sides were terrible last night. Did anyone see Schweinsteiger's lazy effort at blocking Sneijder's shot?

Having watched that game, I am not sure our away goal against Lyon is much of an advantage. We have a 100% record at the Bernabeu this season in all competitions - so if that trend continues, we are through.

Huff , thank god an Italian side happens to survive . Amazing fightback . And whats up with Julio cesar all off a sudden ?? Too many blunders :facepalm

And should Chelsea and Madrid make it through , the QFS will have a number of clubs fighting for a treble :

Man Utd
Barcelona
Inter
Madrid
Shakthar (not sure about them)

If we somehow screw up the 2-0 lead against Copenhagen, I'm gonna start tossing everything in my house!

There's a bleak possibility of that happening given that you 've rested many key players going into this game but again , Copenhagen need an absoulte miracle .

How many players can Ancelotti rest anyway? Not many.

An early goal for Copenhagen would make things very uncomfortable.

That was disgraceful - can't people keep their mouths shut for less than a minute to pay respect to the people who have died in Japan?
