Martin Samuel: Can't England get United behind the red half of Manchester? | Mail Online

Sad to say Mr.Samules is right on point. Even up today while i was @ the pub with some mates, all of them where saying they hope Barca beat United. Which is found crazy to be frank regardless if you chelsea, west ham, liverpool etc fan.

Surely for this one-day the entire England can rally around United. This is why i'm glad i dont support no club & i am country>>>>club man, since the stigma some people in this country have against certain clubs is quite humorous ha

^^^ im a massive arsenal fan and dont want Man Utd to win. nothing to do with the country just that after arsenal barca are my fav team. they play football the way it should be played. and with the state of the game how many english players are really going to be a part of the Man Utd team? 2...may be 3. i see barca winning 1-0. it will not be more because man utd will start off defensive, looking for the counter.

There is a reason why club supporters exist. But I'm completely being a neutral for this final.

Anyway, the referee for the final has been named.

Kassai named as final referee - ESPN Soccernet

Unfortunately most United fans have this Mancunia > England approach, and they celebrate every time one of their players announces retirement from their respective international sides. MB is not included in this, though.

Btw, I am supporting United, just as I did in 2009.

Errr...it's not only Man Utd fans, that's how most English club fans are these days.

I've heard stories of how in the '70s and '80s they'd support whoever were their national respresentatives in European competitions.

The media's partly to blame for it's promotion of tribalism over the years but there's also the fact that it's no longer just the league winners or cup winners who get into European competition.

That's a most interesting article - especially this bit:
United may draw hope, even, from the performance of Shakhtar Donetsk against Bar?a. Luiz Adriano wasted three presentable chances with the score at either 0-0 or 1-0 in the Camp Nou, before Shakhtar's defensive inadequacies were exploited

As shown here, as shown by Arsenal, Barca are not unbeatable especially away from home and over one game. In what is basically a home game for Utd (but with a bigger crowd than usual), we have every chance. If we score first - but not too early. The 93rd minute will do nicely. :D

93rd minute via the mother of all dodgy penalties. How about it Chelsea fans, bearing in mind how you were screwed by Barca last time you played them? :D

Im sorry but im appalled that Fletcher didnt start. Barca at the end of the day will run expose that mid-field & win still IMO. Plus a lack of flecther isn't helping Carrick who was never going to be able to influence the mid-field to any degree without a destroyer next to him - he has been non existent unfortunately.

The word going around is that Fletcher isn't fit enough - he just came back from an illness.
