Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

As shown here, as shown by Arsenal, Barca are not unbeatable especially away from home and over one game. In what is basically a home game for Utd (but with a bigger crowd than usual), we have every chance. If we score first - but not too early. The 93rd minute will do nicely. :D

93 minutes did very nicely .

Liverpool 5-3 Manchester United

Haha say that to make your wounded pride feel better . 5>3 !!!

And seriously , is there a better player in this world than XAVI ??

Barcelona were clear deserved winners all day long! Their performance was just unbelievable and no words can describe players like Messi, Xavi etc. Nice to see Villa scoring a great goal and Abidal lifting the Champions League trophy.

Got my predictions right too. :D

Here's our trophy cabinet - sorry - a bit of our trophy cabinet - and a hell of a lot of that was won recently - not when the Premiership was still Division One. :D

Oh well, hold on to your CL advantage - it's all you've got left after all and no doubt that'll disappear before too long as well. ;)

As to the match - Barca deserved winners. No team in Europe could cope with them playing like that - no team in the World. If Utd were playing any other team we would've won tonight - we didn't play badly at all. The players shouldn't start playing the 'we could've done this/that/the other better', it wouldn't have made any difference. It wasn't as much of a disgrace as it was last time we played them - we were a much better team tonight, but if Sir Alex wants No.3 before he retires, he needs to strengthen the team considerably to come close to Barcelona.

Wembley - a home game for Utd: what a joke! It sounded, felt and looked like a comfy game at the Nou Camp for Barca, why did they have so many more tickets than us? Also, I completely forgot that our record at this new Wembley isn't the best - compared to the old stadium.

Oh - and what were the Barca players doing destroying that microphone after their second goal? A player swears, and gets a two match ban - what's the punishment for something that amounts to vandalism; I'd be interested to find out. It was a bitter sight to see them cutting the nets up after the game as well.

Never mind, it's been a great season for Utd and we'll be even better next season.

Okay , apologies there for letting my emotions out of control . Its just been a season full of hurt that even the smallest of defeats for United felt big for me as a Liverpool fan . Lol we're this funny bunch of people , so don't take this banter as a serious one . But barca were wayyyy better on the night , gotta give it for them !

It's banter between a couple of rival fans - we're cool. :)

That's the problem with the internet - you can never get the meaning of the words the way you would if you were face to face with the other person. :)

Did you guys see Sir Alex receiving his runners' up medal? He was smiling and joking with the presentation team, but just as he walked off shot his expression changed to someone who fancied murdering someone! This will hurt - and I reckon he'll be desperate to strengthen the squad for this reason more than any others.

And hats off to Abidal - he beat bloody cancer and tonight gets to lift the biggest prize in club football. Well done and God bless. :)

Disappointed at the result of the game, but they were the deserved winners. I think we need some spark in the midfield. We look solid but in games like this we needed some bit of magic, Rooney was up for it, Giggs made some swift moves, but I was disappointed in Valencia today. We were good, but they were better. Have to say at halftime I fancied our chances, but at the second half we just couldnt keep up.

Our defence was great, but their attack was simply better. Disappointed by Van der Sar in the second goal, hes such a class act, he could have saved. Villa strike was just pure class.

Although i wont say it would have made United win. But not starting Fletcher was huge tactical flaw. All the teams that have beaten Barcelona in recent years:

- United 07/08 CL semi
- Real Madrid 10/11 Copa Del Rey Final
- Inter Milan CL 09/10 semi
- Arsenal CL R16
- Will mention Chlsea 08/09 semi-finals as well although they lost unluckily

Always had strong DMs Hargreaves, Pepe, Cambiasso/Motta, Song, Essein/Ballack to aid in roughing up the Barca mid-field & not giving them space. Without Fletcher i always expected United to get outnumbered in mid-field & Carrick to be lost again.

Barca however are on path to have a real legacy in Europe here though. Dont think United will be as good next season (unless they get Sneijder) & outside of Real Madrid i cant see any team in Europe preventing them from winning the CL again next season.

I think arsenal is the only team who can beat barcelona at their home in a uefa group stages or any other rounds than finals :p *hats off to Fabregas* And i think Man Utd had their worst squad ever. Valencia was just a waste, They could have replaced park with Nani or so. Whatever the game is over and again we see a big FAILURE!

Failure? Premiership Champions for the 19th time and CL Finalists again? I think not - at least we were there. Your lot whoever they were obviously weren't. :p

Oh - and if you did your best, that's not failure. Failure is when you don't even give it a decent go. ;)

Edit: Arsenal got an even bigger footballing lesson in the 2nd game at the Nou Camp than we did tonight. If Arsenal are your team, after the season you've had vs the season you could've had, I'd keep very quiet if I were you.

Edit: @War - Remember that Rooney was a basic non-starter for half the season. Next season he'll be on it from the go and rest assured, Sir Alex will bring in some new players. There will also likely be some surprises from the youth team - and remember what happened last time we bought some 'kids' through. Hernandez will be even better as well.

As far as I know, Fletcher wasn't fit.

I've been hearing conflicting stories whether Fletcher was fit or not all day ha. But if he indeed wasn't SAF can be excused, but if he wasn't then it was big blunder.
