Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

This is just rather hilarious:

BBC Sport football pundit Lee Dixon on 5 Live: "Di Natale is like the greedy kid in the schoolyard who won't pass the ball."

So, Arsenal take a 1-0 lead to Italy next week but seriously though, they hardly looked like scoring in the game. Not much creativity in the team and if Wenger doesn't address this soon, they really gonna have problems scoring this season.

To be fair, their defense played well but Udinese were wasteful with their chances though. They certainly need to be more clinical with their chances in the second leg.

I also just happened to think of an ideal scenario that United fans would probably want. Udinese beat Arsenal 1-0 within the 90 minutes next week, thus taking the tie to extra time and tiring them out before the trip to Old Trafford. That said, Arsenal would probably still lose anyway at Old Trafford. :lol

Villarreal totally shot themselves in the foot last night with Zapata making a horrible back pass that led to Andreason scoring the winning goal for Odense.

Tell me Arsenal weren't using an offside trap. Udinese counter attacked so well they should've ended up scoring 4-5 goals if properly finished.

Just hope FC Basel get a good group, might tempt me to buy their tickets package.

Damn.

Here it goes:

Group A: Bayern Munich, Villarreal, MAN CITY, Napoli
Group B: Inter Milan, CSKA Moscow, Lille, Trabzonspor
Group C: MAN UTD, Benfica, Basel, Otelul Galati
Group D: Real Madrid, Lyon, Ajax, Dinamo Zagreb
Group E: CHELSEA, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen,Genk
Group F: ARSENAL, Marseille, Olympiakos, Borussia Dortmund
Group G: FC Porto, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit, Apoel FC
Group H: Barcelona, AC Milan, BATE Borisov, Viktoria Plzen

Man city trapped into group of death (anyone noticed it's acrym is G.O.D? :D) Let's see how they'll trade the champions league heat. I have a feeling they'll go through, and if possible make it to the last 16/last 8 if Tevez and Aguero can start together which has not happened. A must watch group.

Chelsea have escaped an ajax hijack, and Juan mata will have to face his dear former club, if he starts ofc he should.

Group H and F second best and look who's making the date? Real madrid vs Lyon... 5th time, baby.

Barca vs AC Milan, now that's something. Rest of their matches are friendlies more or less. Porto should kick off the hood nice and easy, so should Shakhtar but oh well, you never no.

Who can pull of an upset? I have a slight feeling Villareal, not so much, but if they manage a draw and a win against munich and Napoli, they might.
Messi wins european footballer award 2010/2011. :D

From my prediction two combinations came out.

From the group of death I expect Manchester City to go through, especiall with the quality they now have. First match will be against Napoli and then Bayern Munich.

Manchester United and Real Madrid got the easiest draw.

Real Madrid vs Lyon matches are fast becoming like Chelsea vs Liverpool rivalry all those years ago.

Anyway, fairly pleased with the group that we got. Get 6 points from Genk and beat Valencia and Leverkusen at home and we would be fine.

Man City's group should be fascinating to watch. Hoping Robben and co. tear them to pieces! :lol

Group G is pretty even though. Any 2 of those 4 could easily qualify from the group.

Man City make audacious ?50m bid for Man Utd?s Champions League group

Man City owner Sheikh Mansour said, ?We see United?s fixtures against Basel and Otelul Galati to be just what this club needs to take it to the next level, and we?re willing to back the manager to make that a reality.?

?We will not be held to ransom, but if our manager wants it, we will open our chequebook and start writing a number with lots of zeros.?

A United spokesperson told us, ?We?ve worked hard on UEFA for twenty years now to ensure we get an easy group year on year, and we have no intention of selling that ? no matter what price they offer.?

ROFL!!! :lol:lol

Same here mate. I usually back English teams in the CL, but I'm not backing Man City - they wouldn't even be there, were it not for this prat of a Sheik. I hope they get taught a harsh lesson that you cannot win trophies long term just by throwing money at it.

Oh but you can. It won't be long before they do win something of substance. It's not the way I want it, but I can't see it not happening. They are not going to stop until they win something and this Sheik is made of money.

This isn't Fifa - it's about much more than simply throwing money at it. I don't care how much money Man City have, or who they sign, they're going to have their work cut out to finish ahead of us with our never say die attitude which has been burned into the team. Let alone ousting Barca as CL champions.
