if you only let 2 teams through it would level playing field as the rich teams from the big countries couldn't hoover up everyone and then the other countries champions would be stronger. it's not even a hypothetical situation, the champions league worked fine from 50s to the 90s when this is what did happen.

the thing that makes football crap now is that a good whack of the worlds best players spend the best years of their careers on the bench at real madrid or some billionaire backed english team. that can't be good for the game, taking so many quality footballers out the equation? hell, these big teams hang on to these players half the time just so no one else can get them.

and yes, but if city can't get out of their group then I'd say they're definitely not one of the favourites...

With England, some of them are necessary though to keep within the home-grown rules.

I'm sure that's why it was Scott Sinclair who was signed by Man City. Victor Moses as well for Chelsea. The clubs have no choice but to buy these guys and put them on the bench.

That could've been a real roasting for City, Real had so many shots on target - had a lesser keeper than Hart been playing, it could've been three or four. Quite amusing them blowing it in such style in the last few minutes.

Hart ending up causing them to lose. The ITV fapfest over him was cringeworthy.

Still have the watch the Man City game, I guess it sounded like a pretty entertaining match.

Was watching Montpellier vs Arsenal. They outplayed us for the majority of the game, we were lucky that the two early goals were enough as had Montpellier's finishing been better, they could've easily gotten the win. They certainly missed Giroud's finishing, like they have been all season.

That Yanga-Mbiwa kid is a HUGE talent, made some exceptional tackles and blocks. I hope he doesn't go to AC Milan, he could be a great PL player. He's in the last year of his contract, and can play across the back-line.

Belhanda was also amazing, another one that is sure to be lured away by a big club soon enough, really good dribbler.

On our side, Diaby looked decent coming back from injury, Gervinho and Podolski were brilliant again and the defence was really good (you know it is when your best defender from last season can't get a look in). Giroud was really poor, he lost possession on a number of occasions, though he did set up Podolski's goal. Still, he needs time, not expecting him to be banging in the goals for fun just yet.

That was probably our hardest game, hoping we can finish top of the group now.

Was watching some of the goals over and I have to say, wtf kind of system is this, the back line basically sits so deep that just about anyone can have a shot at goal from outside the box.
