Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

'Dream land' should last for a while yet. Enjoy it!! :)

I remember what it was like when we won the Treble - I remember saying to someone at work; must have been 1997 that one day we'd win the lot and he completely dismissed the idea. Two years later...

:D

I remember having posted this about a year back, anyway

Season - Winning CL team - Country

2002-03 - AC Milan - Italy
2003-04 - FC Porto - Portugal
2004-05 - Liverpool FC - England
2005-06 - FC Barcelona - Spain
2006-07 - AC Milan - Italy
2007-08 - Manchester United FC - England
2008-09 - FC Barcelona - Spain

2009-10 - Internazionale FC - Italy
2010-11 - FC Barcelona - Spain
2011-12 - Chelsea FC - England

Barring last season, this cycle (winning nation) is starting to repeat itself. Damn, this pattern had striking repetitions as far as Liverpool and Man United's performances (How far they progressed) were concerned until 2009-10 as well.

Cheers Steve. :D

Gonna enjoy it through the summer and a few nice transfer purchases would make it even sweeter. :p

Chelsea have gone and broken the Champions League trophy. :lol :lol :lol

The trio - all security personnel at Stamford Bridge - have been suspended from their jobs pending a full investigation.

Reports claim that another member of staff noticed that one of the handles was hanging off the side of the famous cup, and reported the damage to senior club officials.

The trophy was immediately sent to a London silversmith for emergency repairs, and is now back as good as new - but furious club chief executive Ron Gourlay has ordered a thorough internal enquiry into what happened.

I still hate how people say it was an 'undeserved' victory. You need to defend to win games to win certain games too you know.

It was a far more deserving overall win than Chelsea's. The 0-0 in Turin against Juve along the way was one of the best displays of control in a European game.

Benitez's decision to leave Hamann out of the starting XI was insane but he got away with it.

Didn't Liverpool come back from 3-0 down in the final that year? If that's not deserving of a win, I don't know what is.

And as you know, I'm no Liverpool fan. ;)

Yeah they did come back and they won the trophy but like Chelsea they are not the best team in Europe they just happened to have everything go for them.

Barcelona are the best team in Europe probably the world, Chelsea and Liverpool both won the champions league but neither of them really deserved it,

That's the nature of a knockout competition. It would be boring if it was a league system and the best team always won.
