Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

United vs Madrid it is!!!

Classic fixtures too, CL never fails to keep us at our toes.

Celtic V/S Juventus should be interesting.

Poor Arsenal.:lol

celtic might not be too upset about juventus, but scotland football fans have very acute memories of juventus playing rangers and absolutely schooling them. alex cleland, despite being a run of the mill bit part player, is still remembered for being on recieving end of absolute torture from del piero and then getting sent off.

it's in this lot.

Sometimes it's better to finish second! Galatasaray did that and got Schalke, whereas we're lumbered with Real Madrid. :rolleyes

Still, it'll be a Classic... hopefully. Cue boring 0-0 that goes to penalties...

Damn, i was lucky enough 9 years to be @ the last Madrid vs United clash @ old trafford. Wish i was still in manchester now for this one...

I have a strange feeling that these matches would act as a prequel to what we hope for the summer. Ronnie back to United. :D Of course, unlikely, but won't hurt to think. Maybe his memories of "home" would spur, and United fans will cheer him obviously.

My prediction: United 4-3 Madrid. Away goals should be decisive. United should do good after the New year so if the league form stays intact United have a real chance at being a threat to Madrid, who are already headed in a downward spiral but that is likely to change too.

So good to have City and Chelsea out of the talk for once, like the old days. ;)

Can't wait. :D

As if we were ever part of the "talk". :rolleyes

Shocked no one's talking about the other beastly match, Dortmund vs Shakhtar, clash of styles really, should be good fun.

They were two of the most impressive sides in the group stages, along with Malaga.

I just checked the fixtures to see that El Classico is the weekend before the second leg. That should be interesting subplot if Madrid needs a result.

Real Madrid might be so behind in La Liga then that they might just field their youth team for that one. :p

Checked that out, unless they bounce back into the terms of catching up with Barcelona (if they don't shake up and hoping Tito comes back asap), they'd better rest their key players for the Clasico.
