Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Usually i always say i rather sporting administrators/presidents to be former players, since most likely they would have a better understanding of the game than executives taken from the business world.

But for a great player Platini defies that logic. Everytime Platini speaks about football, whether its this latest crap, his plans to revamp the european championship or his ridiculous stance against technology in football - its clear he needs his head examined.:facepalm

I don't know how I'd feel about that. I know I'd appreciate it as a Liverpool fan, but it somewhat takes the gloss off what is supposed to be a very difficult competition to qualify for. Moreover, this might not be a huge concern, but wouldn't it make it so much more difficult to follow? It's far less accessible to fans as there is simply too much going on.

The possibility of a breakaway European league, as mooted by Barcelona president Sandro Rosell, was dismissed by Platini who questioned the viability of such a competition.

I'm really worried this is going to happen. it's getting to a point where the big teams won't be able to afford to not be in the CL, plus there's getting more and more money available in asia. I just think one day it's going to click that risking having a bad season in your domestic league and losing ?500m isn't going to be an option and man u, barca, madrid, milan, juventus etc and anyone financed by a billionaire with cash to throw around will club together to make their own league.

Our line-ups out and on first look it looks as though we are going for the Europa League spot, c'mon City!

Martin Tyler: Draw at home and lose away, recipe for disaster.

Me: Yes.

Congrats City, you've made history. First English club never to win a game in Champions League group stages.

Well you're statement is kind of false in that we've won group stage games in the past, just not this season. :rolleyes

Westfalenstadion is got to be one of the most intimidating stadium in europe at the moment. None of the big teams into the round 16 will want to play them before the quarter-finals.

Dortmund could be this years Porto of 2004.

A game I really want to see is Barcelona vs Dortmund, tiki-taka vs fast counter attack footy, hopefully the final.

Even Blackburn in 1995 managed at least one win, yet the most expensively assembled English side ever couldn't...

Idiot you made the history this Season

Winning no games in a CL group with Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax > getting eliminated from a CL group with Benfica, Basel and Otelul Galati.

Even Blackburn in 1995 managed at least one win, yet the most expensively assembled English side ever couldn't...

I hear ya, but it just goes to show that being the most expensive English side ever assembled means jack ----.

It brings up the point of Mancini's questionable European record again...
