Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

I don't see how Messi is supposed to be able to perform on a cold and windy night in Stoke, when he can't even do it in Glasgow and it's still only November.

Clearly he's no Henrik Larsson.

Van Persie, eh? Just pure class.

Funny what happened with the lights. I remember it happening at Wimbledon years back and they asked via the scoreboard whether anyone had 50p. :lol :lol

Don't even know what to say, game winner disallowed, penalty not given, but whatever, not like we were ever going to beat BVB and RM in our current form.

If you watch the incident again, yes it was a clear penalty - but there was also an equally clear handball just before it.

Something in there for the Cricket fans too.

WTF were Shakhtar doing today? First the goal, then not allowing Nordsjaelland a deserved free pass. The second incident was more controversial for me. High unsporting.

Oh how I wish Juve manage atleast a point at Shakthar on Matchday 6 without the suspended Marchisio...

I actually think with Barca not looking so dominant, they'll probably peak at the right stages and everyone will realise even Joe Royle or Alan Ball would have won a few major trophies with that squad!

Marco Reus, what a sensation. Beyond special. There's a reason I had him listed down as my "young player of the season" in the Season predictions thread.

Would absolutely love Dortmund to go all the way now, and they're looking bloody capable too!

Happy Milan won's well - been a great last two days for Italian football with both Juve and the red half of Milan winning. Would like that trend to continue later tonight in the Europa League when Inter, Napoli, Lazio and Udinese are all in action. Would like Udinese to NOT win though, down to my selfishness that'll enhance a Liverpool qualification with a matchday to spare if they win tonight while Udinese don't, at Anzhi. :p

Oppa Ibrahimovic style...

european football could be opening up again. the big investers have brought some of the eastern european teams back into contention (and then there's PSG) and germany and italy all of sudden look to be punching their weight.

the english clubs have been rather poor, man u have hardly looked any better than city or chelsea in the prem, will be interesting to see them up against better european opposition as they were handed an absolute cake walk of a group.

Madrid are a treat to watch live. Were brilliant in the first half. The atmosphere was much better last night then the last time I went. Had Ronaldo scored the winner I would have been the happiest man in the stadium :D

I am looking for some quick Christmas time work, might consider applying for Chelsea manager

Ye fair point. I've always believed that Guardiola is highly overated as a coach, it. Any coach which a uefa licence who is vaguely competent can coach barca and spain to success. What those spanish guys learn @ la masia is already set in stone - the most a coach can do is make sure they are physically fit to play the various games.
