Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Man Utd are virtually through to the semi finals with 100 minutes still to go in the tie, 2-0 up away from home.

Viva Ronaldo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Brilliant result out in Rome, what a player Ronaldo is, 36 goals this season, absolutely phenomenal! We should get through back at Old Trafford now. That potential game against Barcelona would be immense. No trouble with the fans tonight, which just caps off a fantastic night, only sour point is the Vida injury but hopefully he'll be ok.

Hopefully Gerrard can show his class on wednesday!
You mean like him and Torres did at Old Trafford?

I see the vermin fans spat and punch Phil Neville on the back, idiots, I can't believe the songs Everton fans sung about Gerrard were even linked to that, that was banter.

EDIT: How good was Rio tonight!!!!! Unbelievable!

Class, just got back from watching at a mates, we were good. Rio showed his class yet again, for me he's the best defender in the world, look at our record at the back and as good as we are up front it's the defense that shows how good we are. Vidic's injury was dissapointing but we'll cope. Carrick showed himself as our best midfielder imo again.

I watched the highlights of Arsenal's second round game against AC Milan and I wasn't impressed. They fought hard to win but they didn't look comfortable. They don't have any players that make me think "Wow, he's incredibly good". This is why Man Utd are better than them, they rarely win when they aren't playing well, they don't have as much control as Man Utd have in closing out games and they don't have any superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo. I think it will be a false outcome if Man Utd don't win the Champions League this season, they are the best football team in the world right now.

How you weren't impressed by Arsenal's performance against AC Milan is beyond me especially when the rest of the footballing world, even Joe and Phil, were.

I agree that we don't have as many World Class talent in our team but look at Real Madrid and Barcelona and the stars they have. Even AC Milan who we swept away. They're not exactly the best at the moment are they?

As for not winning when we're playing well, you only have to look at the top end of the season to see how many games we battled out or came from behind to win.

I was surprised by Arsenal winning TBH, I wasn't impressed with the performance overall. They never looked comfortable. I will agree with you on AC Milan not being the best at the moment, but Real Madrid are top of Spain's highest league and Barcelona are on course to go into the semi finals of the Champions League. I don't remember how they played at the start of the season, but I was referring to their recent form in the Premier League.

Well, then I question whether you watched the match closely because if you did, you'd see that our passing was superior, we were much quicker and our defending was resolute.

If we had better finishing, we could have scored much earlier. We got applause from the Milan fans. Doesn't that show you something? That was one of the best performances of the season so I'm stunned that you weren't impressed.

If you're actually insinuating that Milan outplayed us and we didn't deserve to win then I won't even bother discussing this.

AC Milan were very poor, over the course of the tie Arsenal were deserved winners. I just wasn't overwhelmed by their performance. In the end it was won by the side that could force a goal, and it was Arsenal. They didn't outplay AC Milan like Man Utd outplayed Roma yesterday though. There is no use in reverting to the fact that AC Milan won the Champions League last year either, they were very poor in this tie and they were there for the taking.
