Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Good win, rested a few players and Rio playing 90 ins especially with stitches was impressive. Nev's back, fantastic when he came on, brilliant. Good goal and we're through to Barca. Justice on the peno. Giggsy played well for the first time in ages, legend.

Don't know what was going on from the minutes silence, sounded like the Roma fans were chanting, mr popular phil can tell us seeing as he was there I'd imagine :p

Barcelona are not good enough at the back to handle Man Utd.

I also think they have too many massive stars up top to play together. Add to this the fact that Ronny and Eto'o are out of sorts and Messi is injured, they won' be favourites.

but won't most of them be back for the tie...still they did look a bit shaky today and our not doin particularly well in the league either...

If Messi makes it back from injury then I'd say United will have work to do stopping him. Its true they have had a rather poor season by their standards, but are more than capable of beating United even without Ronny.

I want Barca in the final so Chelsea can beat them! (I am not being arrogant here as I admit beating Liverpool in the semis will be tough)

ManU were looking like there was no pressure on them. and i can understand that easily when all the key players were rested. Though, rooney was brought out as a substitute, i think that was only like a practice session IMO. Although, good chances came and gone by, i really appreciate the dedication of J.S.Park, he has worked harder on the field, and love the "Lolly pop Header" By Tevez. Good game overall. But, MANU were a little bit too much light taking . I hope that won't be against barca Though.:).

Well Ronaldhino's out for the rest of the season isn't he? Messi's expected to come back but how he would get on in his first game back against us I'm not sure. Eto'os and Bojan are my biggest worrys defensively although Messi against Evra could be a problem just because Evra's so attacking. We're a better team than Barcelona, we've got the second leg at home, they have injury problems, they're out of form and we have the best player in the world but the biggest problem for me is that whenever united come up against top quality opposition from Spain and Italy they show them way too much respect and get beat, hopefully we're over it because we are playing that well but will be interesting to see how things go up until the semis.

If we do win then I really don't want Liverpool, not that I don't think we can beat them, we all know that, I just don't even want to lose risking to them and I'd give us a better chance of beating Chelsea.

Oh will here's the real reason you went out

Aye, I was and yep there were, it started off quietly but then the majority of Roma fans started chanting during the minutes silence, which I'll add, the United fans were silent through. It got really bad and United fans were disgruntled about what the Roma fans have done. The ref brought an end to it early I think and the Roma fans were widely booed. They can stick their ultras up their arse. They're just scum.

Good win though and a good atmosphere last night. Firstly, that was never, never, ever a penalty, I was sat right behind it and Brown hooked his leg around and got the ball. Mancini dived and the ref fell for it. Justice was done though with the miss from De Rossi. I can't help but thinking the Stretford End had something to do with it, the noise was immense and so was the background to it.

Good goal by Tevez, but I thought the two stand-out performances were by Park and Hargreaves. They both looked big threats going forward and Park ran his heart out for 90 minutes. Neither of them put a foot wrong. Yeah, Giggs did well last night, much improved. Good to see Neville back, outstanding reception and he hates scousers so thats no bad thing:D.

The Barcelona games are going to be incredible. Two of the most exciting teams in world football going for it hammer and tongues. I think the fact we have the 2nd leg at Old Trafford is key and I actually think we can go all the way this year. The squad has matured so much since last year and the strength in depth was evident last night more than ever. I think the lack of that strength in depth showed last year, and we just fell a little short in Milan. Ronaldinho is out of the games, Puyol misses the first game and Messi's a doubt I think so is a golden chance to go out there and get to the final.

I am looking forward hugely to United's first game in the Nou Camp since May 26 1999

If we get past Barca, we'll win the Champions League and I reckon we'll grab a draw at the Nou Camp and sneak it at Old Trafford.

No way. Each and every big gun we can muster will be wheeled out to face Barcelona, you can be sure of that.

Bloody idiots if you ask me, still listen to the boos they received afterwards (not to mention us removing them and their team from the tournament)!

well if messi and the other star players come back for barca than it's gna be a tight one...if not than i can't see anything other than a manure victory

In every sport people have to accept you get some decisions that go your way and some that don't. You could ask the same thing about cricket umpiring. If an umpire gives a batsman out Lbw in the first innings should he let a batsman get away with a knick in the second innings. Of course he shouldn't.
well for Arsenal all season the decisions have been going against them...and all in the important macthes as well...and if not the decisions than the luck turns against them

Don't have a good feeling about this wednesday, think we'll do them over 2 legs but the first one won't go to well. Might be going to the home game, not sure yet, really hope so.

Come on united and chelsea!!!!!!

Get there at any cost:p. It's going to be a special night, we never seem to get the semi final 2nd leg at home, and this time we do, the atmosphere will be eletric. I'm not really sure about Wednesday, I dont like all this optimism about it, any time that happens, we tend to lose.

Yep, come on Chelsea tomorrow!
