Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

I wouldn't play Wes Brown right back if at all possible :P!

Well, i can't remember which wing messi plays on mostly, but we picked Arbeloa who is a left footed right back which took him out of the game last year for much of it.

I agree, I'd play Hargreaves at right back as he offers something going forward and back. However, that could leave us lacking a ball winner in the middle, as Carrick, Anderson and Scholes, are all attack minded players. Fergie will play Brown at right back I'm sure anyway.

1-0 at Analfield, 0-0 at Stamford Bridge with Chelski having 117 penalties turned down despite Anelka being assualted in the face and dying off mass blood loss as a result.

That actually made me laugh.

Carragher's exempt of conceding penalties. Unless he uses outside objects such a pick-axe (the same one Kuyt used to haul down Hleb) he'll be OK.

It will be a festival as football as it always is between the teams that play sparkling football. Who can forget the entertainments of 2005 and 2007, and the magnificent free flowing football they played in the league game in February. Beautiful stuff.

I cant believe I'm supporting Chelsea in a match, but its the lesser of two evils. I know United, and Chelsea I think, have done the ballots for the final now, in case we get there.

lol...well i think liverpool might just scrape it but if chelski are on form with drogba and ballack back...than who knows...

for manure and barca again it's hard to say with both teams having exceptional talent...i dunno if messis back or not but persuming he is, the manure defenders will be in for a long night not discounting ronaldos assault on barcas defenders...for me it just depends who plays better on the day...if one team has an off day than the other team will take advantage and move on to the finals...50-50

United-Barca
If their team plays to full potential and all their players turn up, then I dont see why Barca wont be able to get past United and make it to Moscow, even if United themselves play their best football. But the problem is the Catalans havent done that all season. They seem to have played around 25-30% of what was expected of them, and its been such a long duration that I actually dont know if they will ever be able to play their top game. One thing is certain, Messi can himself turn out to be the difference between the sides and there is really not much United can do about that.

But in the end, because of their horribly inconsistent record in league this season, I dont see Barca being able to beat a confident, in-form and even more determined than last year United.

Btw this is the first time I'll be supporting Barcelona as I do NOT want an all-English final and hear all that crap about English football being the best in the world when we all know there is nothing English about English football (atleast in the Premier League).

Chelsea-Liverpool
Chelsea are the better side, and if we had 100 matches between the two sides then Chelsea would win atleast 70 of them. And in any league format involving the two, Chelsea would surely finish higher. But then so would Arsenal and we all know what happened when they played Liverpool over two legs. Which is why I cant pick a winner because Liverpool seem to own knockout competitions.

So have Liverpool...you got tickets phil?

And Rafa has sorted out Carra's problem, play him at right back :P only gives free kicks now...Hyypia and Skrtel have been boss though.

You like **** on a stick.
I don't like the optimism but at the end of the day we're a better side, I think if we didn't show them too much respect like we will do we could really give them a thrashing. Oh well hopefully OH and Anderson are fine.

Hm yeah I wouldn't play (If I was a manc) Hargreaves as right back although Carrick could do his job, I guess Brown is the only option. Where's the inbred boy? Don't you wish you kept Phil Neville? Look at him for Everton :p

I wish, its right in the middle of my exams and across the other side of Europe, ridiculous decision by UEFA to play it in Moscow, of course next year they've realised their mistake and have made it in a much safer place...Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Lol:p. T'was sarcasm:p.

Jorge Valdano, the ex Madrid coach got it right when he said:

"Football is made up of subjective feeling, of suggestion - and, in that, Anfield is unbeatable. Put a **** hanging from a stick in the middle of this passionate, crazy stadium and there are people who will tell you it's a work of art. It's not: it's a **** hanging from a stick. Chelsea and Liverpool are the clearest, most exaggerated example of the way football is going: very intense, very collective, very tactical, very physical, and very direct. But, a short pass? Noooo. A feint? Noooo. A change of pace? Noooo. A one-two? A nutmeg? A backheel? Don't be ridiculous. None of that. The extreme control and seriousness with which both teams played the semi-final neutralised any creative licence, any moments of exquisite skill. If football is going the way Chelsea and Liverpool are taking it, we had better be ready to wave goodbye to any expression of the cleverness and talent we have enjoyed for a century".

Neville's out for 2 weeks btw Drew. Hargreaves has played right back for Bayern and England before. I suppose we'll have to go for Brown. You know you wish you were Mancunian Drew:p.
