Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Decent display against Copenhagen. Not troubled defensively but deary me, created many chances and not one taken! Well, not that it really matter anyway.

And so, Madrid finally broke their Last 16 jinx. Credit goes to Mourinho? But they are certainly a side that I wouldn't want to face in the QF.

That was funny just now - Ancelotti trying to dodge the questions about Chelsea's front two - obviously, he was never going to admit that Chelsea have too many top line strikers now and that they didn't actually need to buy Torres.

Another problem with that is none of them are on form. Anelka frequently blows hot and cold. Drogba's last goal was like ages ago and Torres obviously is not quite there yet. Frustrating! :facepalm

Good performance from Madrid. Well in control all game and were good to watch. Barca - Madrid quarter final? They'd play each other 4 times in the space of 2 weeks. Would be mad.

and a nice touch from players at the end, wearing t-shirts saying "animo abidal".

How about Mourinho vs Fergie? :p

I'm so relieved!! Great performance. Ronaldo's touch in that crucial first goal was simply magical. Fantastic display from Ramos and Marcelo, our two full backs.

My predictions for the QFs:

Real Madrid vs Man Utd
Schalke vs Shakhtar
Inter vs Chelsea
Spurs vs Barca

I'd take that..

I wouldn't. I want Spurs to get to the semis at the very least. They're the only team I can see myself rooting for.

I certainly wouldn't mind facing Inter again especially when they are not as defensively solid and organized as they were last season. And I like the draw but I would be put it this way:

Real Madrid vs Manchester United
Tottenham vs Barcelona

Inter Milan vs Chelsea
Schalke vs Shakhtar Donetsk

:p

I would love to see:

Barcelona vs Chelsea
Man Utd vs Schalke
Real Madrid vs Inter
Tottenham vs Shakhtar

And all the teams on the left side will progress to the semis.

When is the draw, though?

Tomorrow at 1100 GMT.

That would not be fun. :p

But on serious side of things, I wouldn't underestimate Shakhtar. They are a good team and have a couple good Brazilian players. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they beat Spurs, that is assuming if they do get Shakhtar.

I think the best draw for Utd would be Inter. They play too narrow, and are a bit all over the place still. Now that Valencia is back, and Park is on his way, it adds to Nani and Giggs giving us a great wing attack. The wingers will be pivotal in beating Inter (just look at how Bale ripped apart Inter).

Chelsea vs Man Utd. ;)

A trip to Stamford Bridge once again this season.

But, Real Madrid vs Tottenham will be the best of all.

Quarter Finals
Real Madrid vs Tottenham
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Barcelona vs Shakhtar Donetsk
Inter Milan vs Schalke

Semi Finals
Inter/Schalke vs Chelsea/Man United
Real Madrid/Spurs vs Barcelona/Shakhtar Donetsk

GREAT! Is this the work of Platini to pit the 2 strongest English clubs against each other so that one goes out?! Seriously, why United at this stage?! :facepalm

Madrid vs Spurs is going to be a cracker and a potential El Classico in the semi final too! :thumbs
