I didn't even know we had Tharanga.

Murali Vijay
Anirudh Srikanth/S Vidyut
S Badrinath
Albie Morkel
MS Dhoni
Suresh Raina
Faf du Plessis/Scotty Styris

R Ashwin
Tim Southee
Sudeep Tyagi
Ben Hilfenhaus

Don't see Dhoni going with Kulusekara after what we did to him in the final :p

Yeah he will be a big miss. I also think Chennai are lacking a good Indian quickie. :thumbs

Yo Mahesh could answer that problem this season. He is now in his home town side, Chennai, this season.

Southee replaces injured Hilfenhaus

I thought Southee replaced Bollinger, not Hilfenhaus.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/indian-premier-league-2011/content/story/508862.html

Its Bollinger who is missing out on a few games. And he is expected to be back on track after a few games. So I guess Chennai have signed Southee not as a replacement but as a permanent option. This gives us a great fast bowling lineup of Bollinger, Southee, Hilfenhaus, Morkel and we can pick from them.

----------

My playing XI for Chennai would be this:

Murali Vijay
Upul Tharanga
Suresh Raina
MS Dhoni
S Badrinath
Albie Morkel
Faf Du Plessis
R Ashwin
T Southee
Yo Mahesh
Shadab Jakati

This way, we have five full time bowlers (Morkel, Southee, Yo Mahesh, Ashwin and Jakati) with Du Plessis and Raina being the part time options). In fact Du Plessis is more than a part time option. One could be inclined to go with Styris over Faf but Faf is a more explosive batsman than Styris and Faf is a spinner (than Styris who is a medium pacer) which can be helpful on Indian turning tracks.

Watch Chennai's fielding soar this season (with the likes of Raina, Faf Du Plessis, Badrinath, etc playing a big part). No player is a liability in fielding in my above XI.

This would be my line-up for the first game:

Murali Vijay
S Anirudha
Suresh Raina
Subramaniam Badrinath
MS Dhoni
Faf du Plessis
Albie Morkel
R Ashwin
Tim Southee
Shadab Jakati
V Yo Mahesh

Only 3 foreigners should be played until Hussey arrives.

He is out for the entire tournament.

Oh ok. Anyways, Bollinger is on track to be back after missing only 2 games. So with Bollinger and Southee, we still have as good a fast bowling option.

@ Akash: Anirudha is not a good option to partner Vijay at the top. Even though he is a good player for a few cameo runs, at the top we need someone with more experience and potential. When you have the option of picking 4 foreigners and one guy is a specialist opener (Upul Tharanga), you got to use it. I will replace Anirudha with Tharanga in your team and we're all set. I am actually excited about our bowling this time. We have two good fast bowlers (Morkel and Southee), a good backup Indian fast bowler (Yo Mahesh), a star off spinner (Ashwin) and variety in the form of a left arm spinner (Jakati) and good part time options like Raina and Faf Du Plessis. From the main bowlers, I expect atleast 3 to come good this tournament which should be enough for us. And once Bollinger comes, they might drop Southee or Faf and the bowling gets more strengthened.

Just a bit confused , can someone clear this doubt up for me - Southee & Tharanga are replacements for _ & _ ??

Southee is in for Hilfenhaus, no idea about Tharanga.
