What's the best thing to use for cleaning the insides of your PC, compressed air, or a special mini vaccum cleaner available at PC World? My PC's looking a touch dusty!!

Thats funny actually becuase I had to clean mine today or yesterday now :)
I use my vaccum and a duster cloth to clean inbetween the fans.
Don't let it get to bad though or it will clog up the fans causing the computer to shut down regularly due to overheating.

Get a Can of Compressed air (CO2), should be able to get it from a computer shop.

The problem with compressed air is you get distracted with blowing things across tables with it (I went through a few cans of it fairly quickly like that when I was younger). I clean mine using a mixture of a vacuum cleaner (the hand held ones work very well for this) and paper towel, which reminds me I should give mine a clean out some time soon.

So, what do you do? Just open the case and suck all the dust out with hand held vaccum, after turning it off, obv!!

Have to be anti-static though otherwise it can fry the RAM chips. I have seen that happening a couple of times.

Do you mean an anti-static vacuum cleaner?

How do you use these anti-static wrist straps, do you just put it round your wrist and that's it? I know, probably a stupid question, but this is my PC were talking about here, so I want to be sure! ;)

You can get a wrist strap or failing that just touch your hand against something metallic (the case or a radiator) as this will normally dissipate the any static charge.

Saying that if you're using a hoover it'll most likely be plastic so it's not a big issue. Just say away from the mother board and go easy with it and you'll be ok.

It's probably quite simple, but all this talk of RAM and motherboards frying has made me very nervous!!

Be carefull when cleaning out/removing fans. I got burnt the other day by it. I removed the heat sink and fan on my conreo e6600 to clear dust and to lap the cpu to improve heat reduction. Upon reseating the cpu i broke one of the fasters that pins the cpu to the motherboard and to the heat sink. Luckily my oem agreed to send me out another one for free, which im expecting to arrive today.

that static thing can be bothersome, the best thing is to sit on ground barefoot. so static then.
i use those painting brushes to loosen the dirt and while applying vacuum to it. all that dirt that is removed by brush is sucked by vacuum. preety neat
