Story Coming Of Age - A Bangladesh Story [ICC 2006]

Bad Start from Bangladesh here,Basher is now the key to getting the total up there.

The Middle Period: Overs 15-35

As the drinks cart makes it way off the field the Australians have taken the powerplay and are looking to continue what they had started by claiming a few more wickets. Shane Warne is yet to bowl on a spin friendly pitch leaving the Tigers with a lot of work left to do, lets hope their captain can lead them out of it. Bangladesh start hitting out but wickets continue to fall with Jason Gillespie clean bowling Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar for 16

A hero in the test series Mushfiqur Rahim the 17 year old wicket keeper makes his way to the crease with Bangladesh struggling. Jason Gillespie and Shane Watson are all over the batsmen causing them to play and miss numerous times eventually leading to Saqibul Hasan’s dismissal, clean bowled by Shane Watson

Mohammed Rafique joins his partner in crime at the crease immediately hitting a boundary off a Shane Watson no ball but soon enough he departs leaving for just 7.

Abdur Razzak is in the middle now with Bangladesh looking certain to lose the first game. Shane Warne is finally brought into the attack on a spin friendly pitch, a decision that brings immediate results with Mushfiqur Rahim caught in close leaving Bangladesh with little to no hope of rescuing the game from the depths of destruction

Mashrafe Mortaza is on his way out to the middle and they patiently build a 20 run partnership until Brett Lee traps Abdur Razzak in front for 11

Number 11 batsmen Syed Rasel makes his way to the crease to join his new ball partner Mashrafe Mortaza but he only lasts 3 balls edging a Brett Lee delivery to the slips leaving Australia with a small total to chase and the Bangladesh fans extremely disappointed.

After a stunning performance in the Test arena, the Tigers have disappointed a large Bangladesh crowd expecting a close contest. Despite the pitch being a spinners paradise, Shane Warne only had the oppotuinity to bowl 4 overs with the paceman all taking at least 2 wickets. Tamim Iqbal was Bangladesh’s only positive showing his true potential scoring a solid 41 but other than that there were nothing but negatives for a team promising so much. The Australians should come out and knock this one over in a flash. Bangladesh has finished all out for just 121.

The unexperience showing as Bangladesh getting trampled under the pressure by the Australian bowlers....Amazing pres and works Griffo...Keep it up!!

The First 15

The Australian batsmen need just 122 runs for victory at 2.4 the Bangladesh bowlers would have to pull of a minor miracle for them to win. The Bangladeshi’s will be looking to build some confidence if they want to give themselves any chance of winning a one day international against Australia, let alone the series.

Uttara Bank Question of the Day (Rep Points)

Question: Who did Bangladesh play their first official one day international against?

Michael Hussey and Matthew Hayden did not feel like they had to get the total quickly, starting slowly and strongly until a bizarre event occurred but Michael Hussey edging a no ball that was dropped in the slips, not much else could go wrong for the Tigers at this stage.

The Australian openers saw of the new ball easily going at just 3 runs per over, the Bangladeshi’s took the powerplay, which seemed to be a strange decision with the situation that the Tigers were in even though the game was already lost. Not to long after the Bangladeshi’s took their first wicket with Matthew Hayden edging a Mashrafe Mortaza delivery to the slips, departing for 21.

Ricky Ponting makes his way to the crease as the Australians continue to slowly make their way towards the target. Ricky Ponting then mistimes a shot to square leg and it out for 6 runs thanks to a brilliant catch from Aftab Ahmed.

Bangladesh played Pakistan in 1986 :)

To big wickets there. Slight glimmer of hope, Need these next 5 wickets for about 30-40 runs!

2 vital wickets there for Bangladesh but Australia are on target to win this one.

^^^ I will agree with treva with the answer. Bangla played Pakistan in 31st March, 1986 in an Asia Cup.

And Bangla's performance in the match, erm....... I guess I could say that they can do much better than this.

Bangladesh are bowling well but they should pick up couple of wickets to keep Australia on the backfoot. Aftab Ahmed too a wonderful catch .

Btw Bamgladesh played their 1st ODI against Pakistan .

The Middle Period: Overs 15-35

The powerplay is taken after things started happening during the fielding restrictions with Australia needing just 75 more runs at 2.1 an over. Mohammed Rafique was brought into the attack just after the drinks break but Michael Hussey had decided to unleash moving very quickly to 30 but he soon hit a stall with Mohammed Rafique causing him to play and miss numerous times.

Soon enough Michael Hussey eventually fell to Saqibul Hasan after seeming to hit a roadblock he was out for 39 off 79 balls and truly played patiently to secure that Australia would get to this small total.

Shane Watson is the new batsmen and Australia but immediately two balls later Phil Jaques falls for 15 edging a Mohammed Rafique delivery to the slip.

Michael Clarke is in the middle and the Bangladesh spinners are bowling very well and seem to building momentum. Shane Watson is the next to fall trapped infront by Mohammed Rafique for just 13 and Australia need just 23 runs with 5 wickets remaining

Adam Gilchrist joins Michael Clarke at the crease and they start to put the final nails in the coffin. Mohammed Rafique has finished his allotted 10 overs with figures of 2-41 something which he should be proud of but it has been Abdur Razzak who has kept the pressure on all day letting just 2 runs per over.

Adam Gilchrist hits two consecutive fours to bring victory for the Australians and after a very skeptical decision at the toss Ricky Ponting has led his side to victory by a margin of 5 wickets.

Once again the Bangladesh batsmen continued their hit and miss form with the only bright light being Tamim Iqbal, their bowlers performed but with just 120 runs to play with they were never in with a chance against a brilliant Australian batting lineup.

Tamim Iqbal will be interviewed by Athar Ali Khan in between the 1st and 2nd one day internationals and if you have any questions for him please send them in
