Day 4 Session 3

With the Bangladesh bowlers struggling to penetrate they desperately needed someone to lift them. The Australian batsmen just had to play patiently and they would come close to victory and that?s what they did. Phil Jaques added to his start making his way to 50 and then soon after Ricky Ponting hit a massive six to move him onto 99 until he fell trapped infront by Abdur Razzak. Ricky Ponting?s innings was the definition of a captain?s knock unlucky not to finish with a century but the job he was required to do had been completed.

Justin Langer joins Phil Jaques at the crease needing 114 runs to win with 7 wickets remaining. The fall of Ricky Ponting was only a stall with Phil Jaques and Justin Langer building a partnership together even after Bangladesh took the new ball leaving just 69 runs left for victory with 7 wickets in hand. The Australian batting has been not to far from perfect with such a horrible pitch they have shown their true class and why they are the best side in the world.

Australian 2nd Innings - 273/3
(Ponting 99, Razzak 2-57)

Current Batsmen
P.Jaques 88 (203)
J.Langer 25 (49)

Current Bowlers
S.Rasel 18-5-49-0
M.Mortaza 18-3-45-1

Session Highlight - Abdur Razzak?s delivery to Ricky Ponting on 99, to get a player of his class out on 99 is an incredible show of character

Big wicket for Razzak but i dont think its going to help to much. Jaques in a strong position and only 69 runs left its going to be hard not to win

Bangladesh has little or no chance of winning this match, but one has to give them credits for the courage they have shown against the world champions in this match.

Day 5 Session 1

The Tigers walk out of the dressing rooms needing a bowler to step up with Australia needing just 69 runs for victory with 7 wickets remaining. The ball is reasonably new and Mashrafe Mortaza and Syed Rasel bowling well even though their stats don?t show it. Soon enough Phil Jaques brings up his 100 hitting a neat single, his century came after 218 balls. The next ball Syed Rasel took the wicket of Justin Langer clean bowling him with a straight ball that shouldn?t have gotten through.

Australia need 46 runs with 6 wickets in hand with Shane Watson making his way to the crease. Saqibul Hasan came to the bowling crease instantly getting hit for two boundaries but he had the last laugh clean bowling Phil Jaques for 104 after 223 balls in an innings which has put Australia in a great position. Adam Gilchrist then made his way to the middle meeting with Shane Watson. Abdur Razzak then came on and instantly got results with Shane Watson caught in close for 2 leaving the Tigers a chance at victory with Australia needing 40 runs with 4 wickets remaining

Brett Lee comes in under extreme pressure, he does well hitting 17 runs off 17 balls but Adam Gilchrist is Saqibul Hasans next victim clean bowled by a yorker for 6 leaving Australia needing 14 runs with 3 wickets remaining. Shane Warne makes his way out and loses his wicket on his second ball faced clean bowled by Saqibul Hasan with the Bangladesh fans going insane in the stands after a brilliant comeback by their team. Jason Gillespie come out with Australia needing 14 runs with 2 wickets remaining but Brett Lee ruins the party hitting a brilliant 27 of 28 balls. Bangladesh have pushed Australia to their limits and played brilliantly but Australia managed to get the victory winning by 2 wickets. Thank you for being with us throughout this brilliant match, we will now move onto the one day series with Bangladesh in with a real shot at winning a match if not the series. We remind you as always to vote for the Grameenphone Man of the Match, vote for who you thought was the best player for Bangladesh over the entire test with many great contenders this match. Goodnight, thanks for joining us.

Test Series Review

With the best team in the world touring a country whose cricket side is still referred to by some as ?minnows? you would expect nothing less than a completely dominant performance from the worlds best cricketing side, Australia.

But they turned up in Bangladesh without a warm up match and headed straight into the first test and ran into the surprise of their life. The Bangladeshis bowled superbly but it wasn?t enough with the Australian bowlers destroying their counterparts.

In the second test the batsmen performed and Bangladesh mounted pressure on the Australians only for a brilliant batting performance from Phil Jaques and Ricky Ponting to take the game away from them despite a late charge

The Bangladeshis can enter the one day series with their heads held high and should be able to maintain pressure on the best side in the world. They will need a solid performance from their batsmen every game if they are any chance of winning the series. For the Australians they will be disappointed that they didn?t dominate but it is still good signs from them that they managed to win both tests even though they didn?t seem to be at their peek.

There were many great performances during the series with some players standing out for both teams. The three risks the Bangladesh cricket team took two of them paid off with the young wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim playing well as well as young seam bowling all-rounder Saqibul Hasan doing damage with the ball. The Australian bowling duo of Shane Warne and Brett Lee destroyed the Tigers and Phil Jaques played brilliantly with his innings in the second test winning the test match for Australia.

Series Highlights

Mohammed Rafique
Showed the age is no boundary although he added more with the bat than he did with the ball. He had a record partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim during the series and showed leadership when the Tigers needed it. His bowling was much better than it appears in the stats with not a lot of luck going his way during the series.
152 runs @ 38.00
9 wickets @ 36.56

Mushfiqur Rahim
Seems to have cemented his place in the side with many patient innings to improve the Bangladeshis score even scoring his first hundred in the second test and he was very solid with the gloves. Rahim was also involved in 2 record partnerships during the series.
196 runs @ 49.00

Saqibul Hasan
The best of the bowlers with his left arm mediums he destroyed Australia in their first innings of the first test taking a brilliant 5-44. His batting at number 6 was ineffective but without his bowling the Tigers would have been in big trouble.
47 runs @ 11.75
9 wickets at 21.56

But when there is the good there is always the bad and a few players will see this series as a missed opportunity. 17-year old Tamim Iqbal struggled at the top of the order, he was chosen ahead of Javed Omar but failed to make it over 10 runs in any innings. Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was very disappointing struggling with both bat and ball and may not maintain his place in the highly fought after number 6 spot in the Australian team

Series Lowlights

Shariar Nafees
He was named vice-captain at the start of the series, a decision that wasn?t very popular with the fans and his batting didn?t reflect the responsibility needed from him. During the series he got out to bad shots and didn?t seem comfortable at the crease all series.
74 runs @ 18.50

Tamim Iqbal
Javed Omar lost his place to this 17 year old at the start of the series and he did not perform at all during the series. His only highlight was his catching in the slips that seemed to be very efficient. During the entire series Shariar Nafees and Tamim Iqbal never had an opening stand over 10 runs.
14 runs @ 3.50

Syed Rasel
Opening the bowling with Mashrafe Mortaza, the left arm quick did not have much luck but in this game you need to make your own luck. He often had the batsmen playing and missing but only took 4 wickets during the series
13 runs @ 13.00
4 wickets @ 57.75

Both teams will finish this test series with many positives coming out of it, yet many things that need working on have been spotted. The one-day series should show some other indication as to what is going on with both sides.
