Story Coming Of Age - A Bangladesh Story [ICC 2006]

Day 3 Session 3

Australia is lead out by a determined Ricky Ponting who is looking frustrated after collapsing the Bangladeshi top order only for them to recover. Mushfiqur Rahim added to Ricky Ponting?s frustrations reaching his century overwhelmed with emotion he broke into tears of joy.

Mohammed Rafique then turned his good start into his second fifty of the series just as soon as the Australians took the new ball. The new ball could be vital after we saw how destructive the Australian pace bowlers were with it at the start of the Bangladeshi second innings.

Just one over later Brett Lee took his fifth scalp as he clean bowled another Bangladeshi batsmen, getting rid of Mohammed Rafique and making his way into the Bangladeshi tail.

Abdur Razzak comes out to bat and gets the Bangladeshi?s to a 300 run lead while Mushfiqur Rahim continues to dispatch the bowlers to the boundary until Jason Gillespie collects a wicket after Mushfiqur Rahim edges it to Adam Gilchrist for a brilliant 119.

Mashrafe Mortaza joins Abdur Razzak in the middle and immediately edges a ball to the slips off which is dropped by Michael Hussey at 2nd slip but he doesn?t add much to the total trapped infront by Glenn McGrath

Syed Rasel is the last batsmen in for the Tigers but he remains not out with Glenn McGrath picking up the wicket of Abdur Razzak in his next over. The Bangladeshis have posted a decent score but the Australian batsmen have been in good form and are quite capable of reaching the target. The Australians need 342 runs for victory and have to survive just 3 overs until the end of the day.

Wow! 2 great centuries from Aftab and Mushfique and good support from "allrounder" Rafique. If they can show the same spirit in bowling, victory for Bangla is inevitable.

Day 3 Session 3

The Australian openers make their way towards the middle with only three overs left until the end of the days play. They survive the three overs successfully and will head into day 4 with 336 runs to win.

Not bad, not bad at all. All Bangladesh is need to do is to wrap the Aussies up very quickly.

Day 4 Session 1

This is most definitely the vital session in terms of the match with Bangladesh needing at least two or three wickets to be in with a real shot of winning the match. Matthew Hayden showed his intentions from the first ball of the match hitting Syed Rasel to the boundary but as the opening bowlers were at the end of their spells Mashrafe Mortaza got the break through with Matthew Hayden attempting to drive a ball instead he got an edge to first slip.

Ricky Ponting comes to the crease and with Michael Hussey he steadies the Australian chase slowly moving his way past the fifty partnership. They bat slowly but effectively until the end of the session with the Bangladeshi bowlers having no effect against these two superb batsmen. At the end of the session the Australians need 248 runs to win with 9 wickets in hand and are looking strong.

Session Highlight - The Bangladeshi fans reaction after the fall of Matthew Hayden

Important wicket there from Mortaza, but Bangladesh will need to do more to ensure a victory.

Australia have made a good start, hopefully Bangladesh can pick up some quick wickets

Aussies in great position.. Bangladesh need more wickets in regular intervals.. Also, nice century from 17YO! :)

Day 4 Session 2

Bangladesh is in desperate need of a break through otherwise the game is all but gone. The Australians still need 248 runs but Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting are looking strong and determined to reach the target. The session begins marvelously for the Tigers with Abdur Razzak getting the wicket of Michael Hussey with his second delivery of the session caught in close for 43

Soon after that Ricky Ponting reached his half century and with the new batsmen Phil Jaques they stablised the Australian chase building slowly but surely until the end of the session where they finished with a massive partnership of 77 and had just got half of the required total. Australia is looking very strong but one wicket could change the course of the entire match.

Australian 2nd Innings - 171/2
(Ponting 78*, Razzak 1-25)

Current Batsmen
R.Ponting 78 (179)
P.Jaques 37 (98)

The Aussies are strongly building up,and if this continues, all Bangladesh's effort will go in vain. Bangladesh will need some quick wickets to come back into the match.
