Cricket 19 General Discussion

Query for players on Xbox.....is the game playable enough for me to download today and play.....or maybe wait and get a disc version in the post?

It's playable in my opinion. I have been playing since yesterday (mostly the scenario mode), and it's been alright for me. I have noticed a few bugs here and there, but I am not too bothered by them. Going to wait before I start with a career or say Ashes till the game is patched in. Till then, I am going to go all casual and just immerse myself in the general vibe of the game.

i think the thing i am most impressed with at the moment is the balance between the number and variety of edges coupled with the AI still being decent and putting up a score. for the first time you're actually forced to think like a captain and think about your balance between attacking and saving runs, and where your catchers should go.

it's close to perfect.

Agreed. I've mainly been bowling leg spin while testing out career mode and got my first bat-pad off an inside edge yesterday that was caught at silly point. If they fix the teleporting wicketkeeper and first slip becomes viable then spin bowling will be close to perfect for me.

It's so tempting to have men around the bat when bowling spin as edges do happen and can go anywhere, but when runs start to flow I find myself moving catchers out to save runs unless i'm bowling with a big lead or have the opposition a few wickets down.

Do you see the AI batsmen play many defensive shots in the Test/4day games?

Yeah if you look at my stream once I started bowling well they left/blocked a whole over out at times and are happy to leave 3/4/5 balls on the trot.

I don't know if it's a new career mode or the game but I'm having a lot of fun playing as my career player. Bowling seems way better and things don't seem as scripted.

Best way I can sum up bowling for me is the ball can do anything and go anywhere with all possibilities..

I even hit Warner on the helmet and it came down and landed on top of the bails!

Actually now I think of it, I seem to be bowling balls at 151.2km/h very frequently. It feels like the speedo varies between a couple set speeds. Maybe it's just the max I can bowl and I get perfect on a few deliveries. Just thought it was interesting.

any one has seen post world win celebration cut scenes ? or trophy win celebration after series or tournament win ?

Just played my first 35 overs of an ODI and its fair to say I'm having a ball. Playing as Eng vs Aus

Yeah this is my biggest gripe atm (shows how much I'm enjoying it because its comestic). If I bowl a perfect delivery with Archer it is always 94mph on the dor. Iirc we had the same thing with Ashes before a patch offered better variation in the speeds

There's two that I know of.

1. The player, rookie player, resets appearance once you leave career mode. This I have seen in @passwordistaco video.

2. It's only present for Indian Domestic, like now there's 5 domestic teams instead of the whole Ranji Teams. Now that's not a problem really. But, then the club team I choose are from the Ranji Trophy, like Delhi (instead of the New Delhi club team from Ashes Cricket). Even till here it's okay, the problem starts when it makes the matches I play into first class even for the Delhi team, which according to the game is a club team. So, if I am already playing first class, will I then 'progress' to first class again playing for those 5 teams?

Confused. It does seem like they've modeled the teams after the old Duleep Trophy. Ideally I don't want my player to start with such a low level skill set to start playing first class right from the start.

Point No 2 is bad. I mean why on earth do you break things which were fine earlier.

I hear even the stats tracking isn't working.

Just finished my first match on Cricket 19 and may I say I've never enjoyed playing a cricket game this much before, even though I lost to the Pommes. I was so excited to just get stuck right in!

I played a Five5 match on hard difficulty as the Aussies against England, the Pommes won the toss on an overcast day at Lord's and sent me in to bat. Let's just say I made a mess of it loosing all five of my wickets for 37 runs in four and a half overs. England then came out and just blew me away reaching the target zero wickets down inside four overs. The game looks great and I'm so excited to play many more matches, I truly think this will be the best cricket game yet!

Time for my general brief review so far...

Positives:
- Improved layout and graphics
- Presentations and cutscenes before, during and after a match including national anthems, coin toss, highlights, camera pans around the ground etc.
- Improved and more skillful AI (more tactical and realistic)
- Some cool new celebrations (taking wickets e.g)
- Smoother gameplay and more realistic sound off the bat
- Of course the licensed stadiums, kits and players

Negatives: (not that there were many)
- Frame rate during replays and highlights is a bit stuttery
- Default fielding camera (once the throw is returned to the bowler or keeper the camera stays panned on the fielder so you can't see where the throw goes), I can always change this anyway
- I noticed some of the players with darker hair looked a but grey (minor issue really though, doesn't overly bother me)

Now that, that is done I'm looking forward to trying out the scenarios and starting an Ashes series. Hopefully I can help the Aussies finally win an Ashes series in England! Hats off to the Big Ant Team and of course our lovely Beta team. What a great game you guys have given us!

has anyone seen the "highlights" intro cut scene?

like yesterday i played a five5* tri-series between the WSC teams. before the 1st World vs Windies match, there was an intro montage depicted as if it was highlights from a previous game between the two.. i think i remembered to save it so i'll share the video this evening. it was freaking awesome!! such a nice touch

*sidebar - i actually loved playing the five5: yeah slogging isn't really my bag but what was good about it is how quickly you get to "crunch" moments, like a few dot balls and the pressure's on, or a couple of wickets down and will you last the 5 overs... i feel dirty.
