Preview
Scotland face the unknown Netherlands in their very first international match that signals the beginning of the 'new regime'. On what is expected to be a lively Neringa pitch, which will offer a good deal of assistance to all seamers, the Scots have gone for a traditional one day lineup, five batsmen, the one allrounder in MacLeod, one keeper and four bowlers. In an intriguing decision, Guest and the selection panel have opted to played the talented leg spinner Norval Smith, instead of playing four seamers along with the medium pace that MacLeod bowls. However Guest was fully confident in his team mate, saying that he would remind people of Abdul Qadir, noting that "he's got a couple of variations, just you wait and see".
Much is also being made of Billy Wallace, the big 6'4" who steams in off a long run up, Guest wasn't keen to give to much away, other then that he bowled 'genuine heat.'
Sandy Brown is hoping to cause tricks with his elusive medium pacers, while Ainsley Lindsay is hoping to keep things tight with his left arm bowling, which generally clocks up around 135km/h.
However the batting department of the side had been tight lipped, and the reveal of the batting can provide some insight into what we can expect, Harrington and Bond in the top order seem to be the sides most important bats, with coach Langer heaping praise on the two youngsters.
As an associate nation, the Netherlands go into the match as underdogs, even though Scotland is unproven, and they will go into the match as favourites
