2019 Cricket World Cup qualification
Americas Caribbean
The Americas Caribbean section (representing the Caribbean island nations) of the 2019 Cricket World Cup qualification will act as qualifiers for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, set to be hosted by England & Wales. A total of 18 nations will participate in the process. A total of 20 nations were originally supposed to participate, but Aruba and Cuba were forced to withdraw at the last minute due to political reasons. Guyana, a major power source for West Indies cricket would also not participate, having opted for the much easier Americas NSC draw instead, resulting in their qualification for the 2019 Cricket World Cup with considerable ease. They did however permit the tournament officials to use their home ground at Georgetown for neutral matches in the competition.
The format for the Americas Caribbean qualifiers includes the preliminary round in the single elimination or knockout format, followed by a round-robin group stage format. The Preliminary Round will take place shortly before the main draw of the tournament involving 16 teams, to determine two qualifiers from the British Virgin Islands, Suriname, Turks & Caicos Islands and the US Virgin Islands.
The 4 group winners or table toppers from the group stages qualify directly for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. A set of playoffs between the second ranked teams of their respective groups will be contested to determine the last remaining World Cup berth available to the Caribbean. There will be no tournament final played to determine the overall winner of the competition as it would be quite redundant when the main purpose of the tournament is to simply determine which 5 Caribbean teams will make it to the World Cup.
