Hayden Sumner Picked up by the Crows

Victorian hopeful Hayden Sumner has been lucky enough to be picked up by the Adelaide Crows in a suprise pick up. After the 2006 National Draft and the Rookie Draft, the Crows have picked up the 17 year old from Bendigo in Victoria. Bendigo has had some great names come through the ranks of AFL, including, Brothers, Adam, and Troy Selwood. And St.Kilda star, Nick Dal Santo have all hailed from Bendigo.

The next generation, Hayden Sumner, a 17 year old. 184cm and 77kg kid. Turning 18 in July, the Crows have huge aspects of this kid. His a forward line, crumbing type player. And does have a good engine, so can play in the midfield. With Hayden's marking ability he also has the damage to do, with his leap. So he can play as a tall forward, but loves to kick a goal from the boundary. Playing his junior ranks at Marong, Sumner is excited about the move to South Australia to try a new brand of Footy.
This is what Sumner had to say....
"It will be good to play AFL. It will be much different from Country footy that i am use to out at Marong. Bigger crowds, and everything, it will be good. But will be scary and nerve racking at the same time. But i just can't wait to get out their and make my debut".

Sumner played in the 1 NAB Cup match the Crows played against Port Adelaide a couple of weeks ago. Sumner played in the midfield and was good. Had 21 possesions and kicked 2 goals for the Crows, in a more then impressive display.
Sumner will be looking to make his debut for the Crows in Round 1 against the Bombers.

Crows loose opening Match

Essendon have come away with a upset victory against the Adelaide Crows in Round 1 of the 2007 AFL Premiership Season. A 48 point win, was a huge upset on the cards for the Bombers, but they played liike a wonderful team. The Crows lacked a goal kicker, which has been the same story all these years since Jarman/Modra left the club.
Hayden Sumner played his 1st match for the Club. Named in the Forward Pocket. Hayden only had 52 minutes of game time, and spent the whole 3rd quarter on the interechange. But he did start the game on the field, which he would be estatic for.

Sumner played on Paddy Ryder at the start of the match, because of Sumner's ability as a small to mark tall, Sheedy decided to put a tall running type to sut down the "Potential Draft Pick"..... Sumner played a "Alright game". Kicking a goal on debut, which game in the Last Quarter, with about 3 minutes to go in the match.
Hayden had 6 possesions, took 3 marks and kicked a goal. Which is pretty good considering he only played 52 minutes.

Crows have a win

Adelaide have gotten over the Western Bulldogs in Melbourne yesterday to have their 1st win of the year. The Crows had a 29 point win against the Bulldogs to kick start their 2007 Season. The Crows had multiple goal kickers for the afternoon, with Graham Johncock and Scott Welsh who came into the side, both kicked 2 goals for the Crows. After that they had multiple goal kickers, with Hentschel, Sumner, Burton, Goodwin, McLeod and McGregor all contribting to the total score.
Hayden Sumner played a very good game. Sumner not only kicked a goal for the Crows, but he played some time on the wing and played some good football. Sumner finished with 13 possesions and a goal, he would be very happy with his start to his career. Has kicked 2 goals for the season, kicking a goal in every game of the season, If Sumner comes away with 20+ goals in his debut season, he would be a very happy man.
