Australia are number one in ICC ranking but their performance in last 18 months and last 14 test since infamous Sydney test is

Played: 20
Won: 7
Lost: 7
Draw: 6

(Played-Won-Lost-Draw)
Against India 6-0-3-3
Against RSA 6-3-3-0
Against England 3-0-1-2
Against WI 3-2-0-1
Against NZ 2-2-0-0

Win % = 35

Who is number one at the moment. South Africa will be in my books.

South Africa because they can win overseas. India is probably the best Test team at home.

To me no country can come from abroad and win test series in sub continent anymore.

Well you should clarify and say against India and maybe Sri Lanka. IIRC the last home series for Pakistan was a defeat to South Africa and Bangladesh cannot win if their life depended on it.

Sri Lankans are great at playing at home, and of course India is near impossible to beat at home.

Sub continent means India and Sri Lanka only these days. Maybe UAE will be added in some years. :p

I think it has to be South Africa due to their performance both at home and overseas

It will be home for Pakistan and they are past of this sub continent group. Then I will change my statement though.

Just saw your sig. Why would you guys let that disease ridden whore into your country. Please keep her or send her to Afghanistan and turn her over to the Taliban, we dont want her in America anymore

That's because the pitch and conditions are tailored perfectly for their style of play. No one else ahs that benefit, except perhaps England because of their Duke Ball and swing bowling ability.

SA's played and won in several venues and types of pitches worldwide, so I don't really think every thing's tailor-made or anything. The team's got wonderful depth in every department really, with naturally aggressive players like de Villiers and Duminy, wristy and classically gifted players like Hashim Amla, genuinely talented pace bowlers like Steyn and Morkel and vastly improving spinners in Paul Harris and Johan Botha, who could well make the jump to Test cricket. Add to the mix Imran Tahir as well, who's an enticing prospect, especially for the upcoming home series against England, whose players he'd know quite well. If some of the Kolpak players returned, like Ryan McLaren, who's been aching to have a go, I'd think the squad could get even stronger.

England and Sri Lanka are both greatly improving sides, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were to eventually supplant India and even Australia in the Test rankings. The well-established sides would need to fight for their places, for sure.
