Dec 16-20: 3rd Test - Australia v England at Perth

Michael Beer, who would've thought! I honestly thought Warnie was taking the piss by suggesting him, I never thought for one second he would be on the selectors radar.

The selectors must of thought if they can't get Warne, they'll get the guy Warne suggests.

Dean Jones said, that Warney could play if he is offered captaincy. Why is Beer getting selected over Haury and Kafee. The selectors have gone nuts.

Didn't warne start debuting for australia also with a bad bowling average in FC?? If so Beer wouldn't be too bad

Why not select Hauritz?? At least if he doesn't get wickets he can play as a batsman

Some sort of fallout with Ponting or loss in confidence by Ponting.

So how did we all discover this crazy news story? I was on the CA website, the team had been announced where I was expecting the side I had posted earlier, then I see Beer's name in the preview paragraph and think this must be a typo or some reference. Then I see it's not typo and the absolutely lost expression has been with me ever since.

To be fair, Beer has been good in Premier League cricket over the last few years.

Welcome to Weet-Bix MyCricket: Player Season Statistics

2009/10 - 15 matches, 53 wickets at 15.9, econ of 2.2
2008/09 - 16 matches, 28 wickets at 19.3, econ of 2.5
2007/08 - 14 matches, 39 wickets at 13.1, econ of 2.6
2006/07 - 19 matches, 43 wickets at 20.4, econ of 3.2

Mickey Arthur reckons he's the best left arm spinner in Australia and could be something big within a year, all I'm saying is that he shouldn't be written off.

At last some stats that work in his favour, as mentioned before I haven't written him off but I feel we have one better left armer that is worth a go.

Mickey Arthur is his coach so he has to sing his praises, who knows if he was the coach of NSW he might have said the same about O'Keefe.

Why not select Hauritz?? At least if he doesn't get wickets he can play as a batsman :yes

Totally agreed. I think he should play the role of North, then they'll realise he can actually bowl unlike half the god damn country Australia are picking to see who can bowl at test level.

WC, yep, the selectors have gone nuts. If they wonder why Australia can't win a game, then they're stupid cause if they don't realise they are not choosing the best players available.

And yeah, matt, that seems like what they're going to do. 'Maybe get a spinner who knows the WACA conditions like Beer', the next day, Beer is in the Ashes squad. I'm pretty sure Hauritz has played a lot more matches at the WACA than Beer.

If you're going to go with a spin bowler then at least go for your best one. Hauritz should have never been dropped in the first place and the picking of names out of nowhere is getting ridiculous.

Reminds me of the oh so successful English side of the 90s...

I was following the chat on heraldsun.com.au, and decided to go to cricket.com.au after a bit, they had an article there named "12 man squad for 3rd Vodafone Ashes Test" or whatever, but there was no picture, description or information..after a couple of minutes of refreshing, something came up, I read over it, saw Michael Beer and thought I was dreaming, not even tweaking kidding haha.

Boy, I seriously hope Wanrey comes back. Just imagine it, Australia are locked at 1-1 leading into the final match in Sydney. It's the final day as England chase a probable 250 with 10 wickets remaining. At tea they need a mere 70 runs with 6 wickets in hand, but along comes Warnie dragging the game back in our favour. With one ball remaining and with one wicket remaining, Warnie bowls KP around his legs.

Yes, I know it's a long way off reality.

wow we are gonna get smashed! its so hard to look at - i mean look at the english lineup! the worst english team we have faced since nasser...prob even worse. but we are so cr*p! ponting, love the guy and the fact that hes the last hard man from the glory days...but no one else is willing to stand up - its gone all soft since we started paying these guys heaps....and since the indians started using their power and whinged about our behaviour, only to do the same back in our face twice as bad.

i wish the WACA didnt screw over members as much - its gonna be 5am starts again like last ashes trying to get a seat in the sun. hopefully a bit cooler than last ashes...and hopefully those poms who turn up late dont try and peel off the reserved seat stickers like last time! they'll cop it again...nice bruiser to go with the hideous sunburn.

if there's one thing we have been able to turn to this ashes...is beer. carn beer! lolipop some more pies...at least theyll be alcoholic. however they do have a top order full of saffas who can handle their piss....the english however, woeful at drinking as they are at cricket.

the worst thing is their worst player has left the tour in broad. we are no chance now! ha. hope its good fun down there - whos gonna be the gilly this time? smith? are you kidding me! i thought we got rid of merv in the selectors. anyways.....im rolling my arm over now and will be down at training tomorrow chappel - surely im a chance looking at the squad.

wheres my photo from the 06 ashes i posted on here - day 4 - GD mcgrath just takes the nick of Cook late in the day! such a fluke photo...then got hoggy next ball. then a bit of risistance from KP and freddy the next day, then we smashed them. those were the days eh...

Certainly an interesting selection for Australia. I think they know they need to take risks and they have. But what I don't get is why they stick to the likes of Johnson when they have a few pace bowlers bowling well domestically.

Also, calling for O'Keefe is surely a bit strange, because as far as I know, isn't he being left out of the NSW team, behind Hauritz? Would be strange to drop the first team player for the reserve if you're Australia.

Just as well they didn't name O'Keefe and Cameron or Copeland, England might have gone to the SCG by mistake. Although on second thoughts, at least Australia might get a win on the board that way. :p

Been there done that, Hauritz was picked after he was behind the previously dumped Beau Casson.

That article was an interesting read, we have essentially gone no where since the selectors picked Hauritz and have pretty much starting this cycle again.

Foxsports is saying Beer and Smith will play so one quick left out. Makes sense as like the Doherty selection they wouldn't make all that fuss and then not pick him.
Well they've done a massive job of hiding the fact that they've reselected Johnson for no reason.

Was hoping it was some cover up as I posted but wishful thinking as there seems to be a quote somewhere that Hildtich said Beer will play.
