i differ slightly here. sure the catching system's challenging but its more irritating than satisfying. in real life, you bowl a delivery and expect the fielders to do the rest(except for C&B).
e.g - you fool a batsman with a doosra...he edges and the slip takes a catch..
he may or may not drop it.....your luck.this will bring the players skill in play...
so, as a captain you wouldnt want to place your fielders with "poor catching" skills in important positions.
here what happens is....you work so hard in fooling the batsman....finally get a chance and due to awkward camera movements and 1/2 a second window, you drop the golden chance.
am not saying you should remove this system or anything but also give an option to players to have an AUTO system like BLC99 where you can chose both.
As for what I've gathered, the system does field automatically from the first Q&A session.. I am not sure if that works though.. Have a look at the following from Q&A thread: http://www.planetcricket.org/forums...planetcricket-ashes-cricket-2009-q-53865.html

Q6: Is there an option for automatic fielding? I was always forgetting to press the button in time in BLIC 07 and always ended up with the keeper dropping the ball and then taking the bails off.
HS: We agree! Again, it’s about giving the user more control IF THEY WANT IT, or leaving it automatic. Fielding is automatic by default, or you override the fielder and specify which end you want to throw to, for example. In this way you can target a specific batsman you want to get run out.
JF: Catching is now a mini-game in itself with a fun real-time-event mechanism. Again, the player is just having influence over-riding the players stats: if he’s a great fielder he may catch it on his own, but the user can make sure of a catch with their skill. It’s hard to explain, but you’ll see!
