Hi

I thought that maybe a few tips from the best story makers and other members(I personally fall in the second category) would really help current as well as aspiring storymakers would be a good thing.

These would be my tips.Others are most welcome to post theirs so that we can have really good stories in future,(not saying that the current one's are poor but there could be a lot more quality stories)

--->Try building up to a game as in the real world. This means use press interviews, media warfare between captains, players etc.

--->Using Pictures-Pictures including ingame pictures as well as real pictures of players, crowds etc always add to your story. But do not overdo pictures as
a member reading your story would not want to spend too much time for the
pictures to be downloaded. So use them carefully.

--->Try using different fonts, colours and different sizes etc so that each piece of story is depicted properly. It makes for good viewing.

--->Attention to detail.Try putting as much detail as possible as it really makes the story that much more special.

--->Fianally play normally.Never try deliberately making matches look close.
Always play the way you normally play so that the viewers are inspired by your originality.

Waiting to hear others comments.Hope the thread proves useful for young and aspiring story makers.

I would add to that Regular updates, everyone hates it when you dont update regularly, its not too bad after a few days but when it gets to 5-6-7 days people lose interest.

Also, some people (like me) are limited to what they can do grapchics wise as they only have paint, i think this puts people off because they feel that they cannot become one of the best, i always feel that this is the worst part of my story writing, i dont have a decent graphics package which was o.k up untill the likes of MWaugh and BrettLee started merging in game graphics and real pictures. The bar is now raised but dont let this put you off, it certainly doesent me!

Detail, Detail, Detail!!
If h=you have pics or not, youve gotta have detail. U decide which u think is better:

Sachin with a four.
OR
Sachin Tendulkar massacres that one through the covers for a brilliant boundry! The feilders couldnt move a muscle as that rocketed to the fence!
:p

Dont thank me ashu, thank all the story makers out there.Hoping for more suggestion's from the others as well.

Another tip, If the the opposition if almost equal or better than you, then you should consider losing a few matches too. For an instance, i played a zimbabwes tour against Pakistan, South Africa and Australia. And realisticly, i lost almost all the matches.

but this tip of yours is completely opposite to the tip that sid gave in his first post "play normally"! trying to lose to make it look close is not normal! you always play to win!

My tips:

1. Try to use pre-match interviews, reports, post match reports, presentation ceremony, etc etc to build up hype for a particular match! It always helps! It worked for me with amazing effect!

2. give lot of detail as people said here! give importance to your english (grammar!) as a story with poor grammar wont evoke the interest of the readers!

3. before starting a story, try to find out who the majority of the audience are, so that you can increase your chances of having a successful story! e.g. This forum would probably have the majority of English and Indian fans! So stories relating to these two countries would be good! But if you're patriotic or if you want to be in sync with real life cricket, go ahead with your choice!

good tips, saisrini,we all know how good a story maker you are.By the way it would be good if this thread is pinned so that all aspiring story makers can use these tips.

TBH, I don't really read those interviews and stuff(unless they are of members or made up characters), 'cause I feel they are silly, but hey-thats only my opinion...

my best advice to the difference between an average story and a good story is to keep going with it. there is nothing worse than somebody starting a thread. continuing for about 5 posts, explaining what patches they will use and who will play then not return to the thread. it takes up valuable room for one and makes the stories thread look cluttered

sid this doesnt need to be pinned at all no offence but this isnt really neccesary as people can read others storys and great ones like mwaugh mvaughan brett lee jazz and many others

The most important thing is to be original! There are some great stories out there with great presentation and just because you think they look good doesnt mean you should copy them! Come up with your own ideas as it makes it look a lot more better and more interesting to read! I also dont think the standard of graphics you have is too major either! Its the content of the story and how interesting it is, the pictures are just there to make it more interesting! So dont be too put off if you feel you are insuperior to those gifted enough to have great graphics cards!!

Stories are hard things to stay commited too, so make sure if you start one you will go through with it and finish it until the end, as MWaugh said, stories that go on for 5 posts and then stop make the forum look untidy, and also im not really liking the idea of 3 threads for one story where in two of the threads people are asking for members to sign up to various teams, and then in the other is the actual story, try and keep those others in the same thread as the main story!
