I am planning to buy a new digital camera. I'd appreciate any help regarding the same.

My price range - below Rs.6,000/-

The models that I've liked so far :

SONY CYBER-SHOT DSC S930

and,

KODAK C160

Could you guide me in selecting the better one (out of the above two models). Also, I'd be glad if you can tell me some better models within the price range that I've mentioned.

I'd rather prefer Nikon or Canon in this section. If you can research about Canon PowerShot A480 its good I suppose(as far as I've read) If searched properly you may get it around 6.5k or even lower :)

If you wanna buy it online give a shot at eBay it should get the camera around your budget

Thank god you didn't bought Kodak.

it's really a waste of money and too heavy and old styling like

I have a Canon A470 in Digital cameras Category. It's now 3000 INR less, It was around 8000 when i was gifted in 2008. :) My friend ended his search for a 10,000-;+ Budget camera. He was on the wall of dilemma and finally umped towards FujiFilm over Nikon Coolpix.

Tbh, Nikon somehow overshadows any of it's contenders, But actually the FujiFilm was good. It had a drop more features than Nikon in it's range, and more it's more than a hold and shoot camera. The Cameras these days however offer great features that their next range D-SLRs offer.

As well, Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX1, If i get worked up, I might try it soon. It has a lovely Sweet Panaroma option, sure check out some videos.

Another is Nikon COOLPIX L100 for family kind of uses; If you need something in the range of L100 under your budget, you can see Kodak EasyShare Z915.

If you need anything under 9,000 to 10,000; Check out for Canon or Nikon as your main Preference. Anything over that, you can expand your choices. Because there are valuable cameras for the price range, worth buying. :)

Too late mate. If you read few posts above, you'll know that I've already bought Nikon Coolpix L20.

I got it for Rs.6600/- (4GB Card, Case, and Charger included)

Nice Camera Pranav, but the only drawback imo are the AA batteries.
These cameras use up a fresh cell within 25 photos sometimes. Use rechargable cells, and always keep a pair spare with you. Flash is a battery killer :noway

Anyways, Great purchase, and you got it at a good price too :)

I have actually used the camera for a quite some time now. Duracell gave me 50 shots. While the rechargeable cells gave me 200 shots. No that poor TBH. The only problem that I feel is that it takes about 12 hours for the rechargeable cells to get fully charged. Though, it's usually better to charge them overnight, whilst you are asleep.

Well, i have no digital camera now, but i intend to buy one next month. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Does anyone have the Panasonic Lumix DMC - ft1 (ts1 not in aus)? I am getting one soon, as my old digital camera is acting up badly. Any thoughts on it if some people do own it?
