the price of the 8500GT card would depend on the manufacturer eg XFX, MSI
I dont have an idea about the price but the card for Rs. 5200 might be of a substandard manufacturer.
You can't have your processor on your new board P4 1.7Ghz uses socket478 while the newer ones uses LGA775 socket.Another inportant thing i was thinking is that what i get my Motherboard, GFX Card and RAM upgraded while stayingon with Pentium4 1.7Ghz for a while
I think 5300 is of XFX. I am sure i read it somewhere.............
Also the core 2 duo he is telling you is an E4300 not E6300 if you're thinking it. The E4300 has 800MHz fsb.

http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=837221,837128&familyID=1&culture=en-US as you can see from the link both them are socket478. What they meant would be P4 with LGA775 socket.Well i remember reading on the box of the motherboard that it has support for Core2 Duo, Pentium D, Core Duo, and Pentium 4.
Will there be any noticeable difference between these 2 manufactures?.the price of the 8500GT card would depend on the manufacturer eg XFX, MSI
excellentOk, finally i paid a visit to Nehru Place today and here's the price list. I checked the prices with 5-6 shops and all quoted aprox. the same rate with Rs. 50-100 more or less.
1. Intel 965 Motherboard = Rs. 5,000
2. Core2 Duo 1.8Ghz = Rs. 5,100
3. Geforce 8500GT 256MB = Rs. 5,200
4. 1GB DDR2 RAM = Rs. 1,800
-----------------------------------
Total = Rs. 17,100
excellent. as for companies, there are only 4 of them in india.8500GT was really hard to find, one guy quoted Rs. 6,400 while another Rs. 7,200 but i got the price of Rs. 5,200 from 2-3 shops so i'm assuming that the product they are seeling is for real, ofcourse im gonna check each and every part over and over again while the time comes to buy them.
wow, 1st time i am hearing of a retailer who tells about thermal problems with CPU.!!although, wrong ofcourse. if there is no juice, the the component won't function. too much heat, it would melt.only power supplies go BOOMNow what im thinking is that the guy told me that i will need a new cabinet which will have a higher power to support the upgraded hardware. Otherwise the system can overheat and BOOM BOOM. What do u guys suggest?
lol. i mentioned somewhere that any core 2 Duo processor beats the living hell outta the WHOLE Intel DUAL CORE lineup.Another thing is that the guy was telling me that i should go for Intel Dual Core 3GHz with 4MB Cache. B'coz although it is inferior technology, it is better than Core2 Duo 1.8Ghz coz which has only 2MB Cache. So need ur suggestions on this one too.
if your processor is LGA then do it, otherwise no option.Another inportant thing i was thinking is that what i get my Motherboard, GFX Card and RAM upgraded while stayingon with Pentium4 1.7Ghz for a while, say 2-3 months. Now why will i do that is b'coz, P4 1.7Ghz is good enough to run most of the latest games. By now going for Core2 Duo 1.8Ghz at this point of time while save me Rs. 5,000(outta a total budget of Rs. 15,000), which i can use to get myself a new cabinet which will have higher power, plus, i get get myself a Combo Drive too, coz my old CD-ROM is almost dead and gone. Then i can wait for 2-3 months and get myself a Core2 Duo. What do u guys say about that?
excellent
Im glad to hear that...
excellent. as for companies, there are only 4 of them in india.
MSI, XFX, gigabyte, and ASUS.
the cheapest and consequently the best in XFX. no fancy packaging, just a superb card.
the others simply charge for ther brand value, and 5 hz of overclocking difference.
So, i should buy the XFX 8500GT, which i think they have quoted me the price of. And since this is the card which supports Dx10, it will kick the living hell out of all the games...right?

anyways, u would require a ATX cabinet. with about 450-500Ws to be on safe side.and get 2 80/100/120 mm fans installed. one intake in front lower side, other exaust at back.
Actualy i brought up thiss point in front of him. So u think 450-500W of power would be enough for this upgrade?
lol. i mentioned somewhere that any core 2 Duo processor beats the living hell outta the WHOLE Intel DUAL CORE lineup.
E4300 is overclockers dream chipset. at defaults, E6300 is slightly ahead of it. but when overclocked, on default heatsink, it can match, and even go above X6800. X6800 is the grand daddy of core 2 duo linup. (X - xtreme :hpraise )
however, u would need a board which can increase FSB in small increments. almost all boards provide this feature, so no worries. heck even with a little increment, u can get nice performance bonus.
the same is with E6300 though, but it can't match E4300 in overclocking, as this runs a little hotter than E4300.
what's the other difference then? it's a very small one, which wouldn't even matter to home users. E6300 has VT, E4300 doesn't have VT (virtualization technology)
contact me if u wanna know more.
and yes, by all means go for E4300. it's good.
i really dont understand the overclocking stuff, i just want to know whats best for in its defualt state and what should i go for?
if your processor is LGA then do it, otherwise no option.
Whats LGA?, how can i find it out?
oho, by the way. if u find any seller selling logitech rumblepad. doo ask the price and tell me about it. also Xbox 360 controller for windows.
i am buying a gamepad first thing this exam ends
I remember all that and will let u know.

450 - 500 W would be enough. 600W PSU's are need when u are running systems with two GFX cards installed.which ofcourse u won't do.Actualy i brought up thiss point in front of him. So u think 450-500W of power would be enough for this upgrade?
well, overclocking is very easy for E4300, and E6300.and if u don't wanna do it, i would suggest get the cheapest avalible. Both are highly overclockable. and only one setting is needed to be increased. the FSB speed.i really dont understand the overclocking stuff, i just want to know whats best for in its defualt state and what should i go for?
to check whether your processor is LGA or not, run PC wizard and select processor tab. it should list which socket your processor is of.or post the screenshot here.Whats LGA?, how can i find it out?
thanks.I remember all that and will let u know.
Leo, after reading some current reviews, i have found that 8600GT merely matches and gets even beaten by 7600GT in DX9 games. Cant say about DX 10 but at DX 9 i think. Read here http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=637 .
So, definitely the 8500GT would be lower in performance than 8600Gt = 7600GT, so 8500GT < 7600GT in DX9 games. I know the difference would start coming up in DX 10 games, but i was just claryifying to everyone that not in DX9.
Leo said:i was preety much like u in 10th too.
lol. shouldn' t bother typing now...Definitely not, all what you said i knew it all before lol, i didnt bother typing because i knew you know it all also
