Sure, but first i need to decide what all i should buy, then only i can sell my old parts.

Im sooo confused as to what to go for.

Leo, do you expect him to build it all himself ? :p
getting components yourself and then getting it assembled is the best way. assemblers charge a premium for their dumbheads.

On the RAm front, opt for 1GBDDR2 RAM, preferably in dual channel mode. - Around 4000 - 4200. Dual channel may cost about 100 or 200 more.
in layman terms, dual channel means that two identical ram sticks, if installed, would be configured to provide double bandwidth. it's a property of motherboard, not ram sticks.

@tutsi: i don't know exact details, but
motherboard : chipset 965 approx 5K max

processor : core2 duo 4300 about 5k.

ram :
Kingston DDR2 667 == 2k
kingston DDR2 800 ==3.5k

GFX card: 8500GT == 5.5k

i suggest
go for DDR2 667 and 8500GT. to have some performance diif bwt 667 and 800 requires lots more of processing power. generally mid level systems tend to get bottlenecked at GFX or at Processor. only top end systems can strain ram.

u would have a preety cool system at about 17 k.

and one more thing, prices of both GFX card and processor is about to fall because of cuts for core2duo, and ATI's entry into Dx10 GFX cards.

in india, price cuts take there time to reach consumers. so check prices at the end of the month.

also, there are many internet sites which put up prices of various hardware, like
http://www.yantraonline.in/
http://www.freewebs.com/abdulmustak/index.htm
http://www.theitwares.com/

but there prices are quite high, so always check with dealer.

This sounds like a pretty good combination. with 15K in hand + Cash which i will/might get for my old components, i think i can afford the above upgrade.

What do other think about it?

Leo, the 8500GT is not yet available in india, i think its only 8600GT. Moreover i doubt about the availability of the E4300, the prices are indeed good but the availability is what matters. If you go with price, many things are great, but availability is the main factor.

Regarding the premium of the assemblers, they come at their own benefits, like free services for a time etc. and easy warrnaty replacement handling.

8500GT 's avalibility might be a problem for now, but it is THE thing to go for. no need to invest in dx9 graphics cards, they are getting obsolete.anyways, demand for 8500GT would skyrocket, as it's a value part.

i don't think E4300 avalibility is a problem. soo many people around me have bought it.

don't joke. free service... all they do is come home. format. go back. can't even bring a backup HDD too.
and about warranty.well, letme tell u my case.
i have this the HDD which developed bad sectors.i bought is in 2005. so i asked my dealer to get it replaced and he said that warranty is for two yrs and i will have to buy a new one. so i phoned segate guys asked them about it.they said my HDD's warranty is till 2010!
so i phoned my dealer back again with this news and he said "segate offers waranty for 5 yrs, but we offer for 2 yrs" !!! :mad

in the end, i just repaired bad sectors myself. and one thing, there is nothing like assembler warranty, your component's indivisual warranties are still valid.

Assemblers are no good at all, they cheat in warrenty and also in price.

I used to be into computer parts and all so knew everything about everything. But its been like 3 years since i've been out of the "computer world" and nehru place, so i have very littel idea as to whats new in the market, what should i go for, whats the cheapest i can get it for and who's a trust worthy guy.

I know Nehru Place is the world but its full of guys ready to scam you, so thats y im taking the help of this forum so that i dont waste my cash and my time on things which wont benifit me.

Well those assemblers have to make money from somewhere, one cannot blame them. And "assemble your own" is a good idea and make sure you get all the cables and attachments when you buy your components. I was recently in India and had to buy a DVI-to-VGA adapter separately as it didn't come in the graphic card packaging despite being written on the box. I obviously didn't have time in my hand otherwise would have made life hell for that dealer.

man, even i need the DVI-to- VGA adapter, but have no idea as to look where.
money isn't a problem, but atleast there service should be worth it.
the problem is that assemblers are hardly computer literate. they just know what goes where, and how to get it up and running.
my previous assembler used to close my DVD rom drive by pushing it. when i asked not t do it, he said "It's my style!!" :mad :mad
i promptly threw him outta my house.

very true leo... ask any computer assembler/repair guy what a particular thing does, and be sure to hear the most innovative answers...
i once asked this fellow about a part in the motherboard, i got the answer :
"It is there so that, when u play games, the motherboard does not vibrate"
i couldn't stop cursing cursing the person who had sent him...

those things make me rofl :laugh.
Another thing to wonder is why Intel sells so much in India. I know people blinded by the fact saying that their PC is P4 and still running slow, why?

intel has been in india since computers came...it is tried and tested, and also trusted(often loathed though)... indians generally oppose change..
AMD is beginning to get popular, but will take a lot of time to establish itself firmly in the indian market.

I would also say marketing they advertise a lot, I am yet to see an AMD advertisement. Because of this many people buy intel products.

If im not being rude, comming back to the topic, can u guys plz suggest me what i should do.

Components suggested by blackleopard92 sound good. So should i go for them?

sorry, got deviated from the topic...
ya, leo has suggested very good specs.. if that is within your budget, you should surely go for that...
